I am a baritone/bass, capable of singing in both a contemporary tenor "style" (like RENT) and in more classical like Les Mis, but my range is very low, about D2 to E4 (F's a stretch, only on really good days) if not in falsetto, so I can't pull off those higher modern roles. This is often frustrating in finding roles for me to play and songs to sing, because most roles for men my age (I usually go up for roles in the 15-25 years old range) are wildly high (like Bobby Strong from Urinetown, or Elder Price in Mormon). Any audition song/role suggestions?
PS: I CAN transpose songs for auditions, but for now, songs in the original key are preferred.
I have a similar range and had a similar issue. I really love Into the Fire from the scarlet pimpernel. You may have to transpose but I never hear it done in auditions and has a great "Les Mis" revolutionary vibe.
