New Matreess |
I think my current mattress is from a Sleepy's. Honestly, the only way to know what you are getting and to figure out what you like is to go to a store and test out what they have. Like I thought I wanted a really soft mattress, but went with something slightly firmer.
Be very careful with memory foam. I slept on those a few times and they directly reflect your body heat. I was sweating and couldn't sleep all night. Many people don't have a problem with it, but if you get hot easily (I can rarely sleep with anything heavier than a light blanket with the air conditioning on), you may want to find a way to try one out before you commit to it.
What ever you do, do not go cheap on a mattress! Perhaps one of the most important buy you can make. I went to Sleepys on sixth ave and purchased mine a few years back Was a coil mattress, Had a thick quilted padding to which I added a quilted coverlet. Cost me close to 2K by boy, what an awesome mattress!
If you are interested in a Casper mattress they have recently partnered with West Elm so some of the stores now have the mattresses in store so you can see and feel them in person. I know the Chelsea store has them set up.
I have the same problem with memory foam that Mister Matt mentions. My natural body temperature seems to run a bit high and the couple of times I've slept on a memory foam mattress were some of the worst sleeps I've had because of how hot I was.
So, you were a hot mess?
In more ways than one, lol

A good mattress should last 15+ years. Is it worth $100/year to wake up each morning well rested and not having your back in knots?

This is my problem! I'm a "a/c on in the winter" kinda person, but I read coils aren't good. So don't know.
With Casper, you have three months to return it, I believe. I have never tried them, but I hear the ads constantly on different podcasts. RuPaul is happy to save you $50 on your purchase of a Casper mattress here.
Mattress shopping has never been fun but last year we needed a new one and we went to Macy's. This is after having done the 1800mattress and Sleepys in years past. I was very happy with the purchasing experience at Macy's primarily due to:
1) there were many options to try
2) knowledgable sales help to answer questions
3) surprisingly they offered a 0% APR financing option if paid off in 12 months
4) delivery was free because we spent over $800
Best of luck and sweet dreams.

Not sure what the worry about coil is. There are many versions now that incorporate wraps around the coil and others to eliminate the dip/poking issue. Memory foam makes me overheat too. (OOO A/C in the winter- I wish!) It u want something a bit cushy might consider one w a built in topper, I did and I love my bed. Only thing is you can only "Spin" the mattress not flip it to even out the wear.
^ I have 1 like that too. I love it.
Got a new mattress at Macy's this summer. Their service is unparalleled - knowledge of salesperson, quick and efficient delivery. They offer a great warranty, too. Like SNAFU, I spent about 2k, but the bed I have is amazing and was worth every penny. Macy's offers a ton of sales so just keep an eye out. My bed was on sale for almost 1k off.

This has been running thru my head:
Gittel Mosca: "Take a feel of that. Go on-You know what I paid for the mattress alone? 59 Bucks. The one thing I'd never be without is a good bed."
