The Musical Stage Company (formerly Acting Up) has announced that it's collaborating with Mirvish to bring Fun Home in next season. I doubt that it will be part of the subscription, but a show that I'm interested in seeing!
Mirvish is presenting Fun Home, not collaborating on it. Which translates to = Mirvish is renting out the Panasonic to the Musical Stage Company. And to be clear, this is a local newly staged/designed version. They aren't "bring it in" from anywhere (like the Broadway/US tour staging).
In quoting the Globe and Mail, I seem to have upset you.
And my misuse of "bringing in" is clearly a problem.
Does it REALLY matter??
I'm excited to see Fun Home and Mirvish has their name attached so I thought someone reading this thread might be interested.
Of course the staging will be different! Circle in the Square is not the same shape as the Panasonic the last time I checked. Anyone who knows theatre would know that The Musical Stage Company isn't hosting the equity tour, etc.
In any case, Mirvish should be announcing the new season soon, and I look forward to seeing what my subscription has to offer.
Hopefully it includes something that brings you joy!
There's a big difference between 'presenting' and simply renting out a theatre (four-wall).
Presenting implies that they're paying the producers something supply the show, and splitting profits, or there's some other financial deal... free rent, etc. Ex: most tours Mirvish presents receive a weekly guarantee from Mirvish to show up and put on the show. Then after ticket sales top an agreed upon amount to cover Mirvish's local costs, the left over 'profits' are split presenter/producer.
Mirvish also rents out theatres all the time, and sells the tickets for the producers. But they're not part of the official season, and they're certainly not 'presented' by Mirvish.
The write up on FUN HOME using that key words 'presented' by Mirvish indicates some level of involvement on his part.
No real news, but this is up on the subscription page:
"David Mirvish is pleased to announce another exciting season of theatre! The new 2017/18 Mirvish Theatre Season includes 10 productions available in two separate Season Ticket packages - the Main Season Subscription and the Off-Mirvish Series."
No show announcement yet (should be any day now), but it looks like it will probably be 7 main, and 3 off again.
I assume we'll finally see Love Never Dies in Toronto, with the un/official announcement of the tour, and because we were supposed to get it years ago.
4-show subscription sales for 2016-17 have been discontinued, clearing everything out of the subscription sales page on the web site. Also, renewal offers are in subscribers' account pages, but the link doesn't work yet.
So the new subscription package is a little disappointing to say the least. Where is Hamilton? I loved Come From Away but would rather have seen that as an added show versus a part of the package. I think one of the most fun looking shows is an added show in Bat Out Of Hell. I wanted to see that in Manchester when I was there but it opened the day after I left.
An insiders with information that Hamilton will tour though next year?
Wicked is returning, just not announced yet. June/July 2018 at the Ed Mirvish I've heard we will see Hamilton next year in Toronto, so maybe late 2018??
Otherwise, I'm surprised at the Come From Away return. Seems like this could go the way of Once, which did that return engagement after being wildly successful the first time. And then fell flat with the Canadian company upon return. Toronto was over it by then.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic... I heard next year, evidently that is not the case. Regardless, I find this announcement to be a little embarrassing, not only for Mirvish, but for the general state of commercial theatre in this city. Three more years (most likely) until Hamilton is seen in Toronto is pretty ridiculous.
It is embarrassing, Toronto when having tours used to be a first run market, now we get things in later years. There's a few new bway tours this season and last but Toronto is not a stop. However we get this random assortment. Hamilton in year three is a massive failure. Not that I'm wanting to see it but the demand is now.
I don't really know what to make of the new season. I'm really only interested in "An American in Paris" and "The King and I".
I will agree with the previous posters about Toronto not being a main tour stop anymore. It seems like most tours are now ending in Toronto, or making it one of the last stops. If I were in the Toronto/Hamilton/Niagara area, I'd want to subscribe to the Shea's season in Buffalo. They get more "new" tours, and Buffalo always seems to be in the first batch of tour dates announced.

Annie? Whatever. I guess I'll miss this one. Weird about Muriel's Wedding. It seems so far in advance that something could conflict with it. Who knows.
I did find out that School of Rock will be apart of next season with Mrivish.
