Are We Reviving the '90s?#1

Forget the fact that we have a Clinton running for president and that Pokémon is hugely popular again. This season alone, we're reviving CatsMiss SaigonFalsettos, and possibly Sunset Boulevard. One of our new musicals is Anastasia.

Is this all simply by chance? Does Broadway typically revive shows ~20 years after their original runs? There of course isn't an answer to all this, but I think it's all worth giving notice to...

Nostalgia seems to always has a 20 year cycle. This is not uncommon.

It seems that everything revivable is revived in time...sometimes before it's time.

Don't forget the Full House revival.

When I was a a kid/teen in the '90s, The Brady Bunch made a big comeback. First, in some play that was traveling the country (really, just the TV scripts adapted to the stage), and then the movies, which were successful. I also remember bell bottoms, fringe, and hippie glasses being 'cool' in middle school. But the nostalgia seemed to have evaporated by 1996.

The 80s are still a major cultural influence, especially since the many of the people making stuff came of age in the 80s. Hence throwbacks like Stranger Things, etc.

A lot of stuff bled over from the 80s to the 90s (and beyond), but why would Cats be considered "90s"?  Same with Cheers.  there were revivals that occurred in the 90s that have either run recently or scheduled to open soon (King & I, Fiddler, She Loves Me, Dolly, etc.), but I wouldn't consider those shows of the 90s.

One of our new musicals is Anastasia.

Then you could probably add Aladdin to the list as well.
