Flags at Half Staff for Shimon Peres

My school put our flag at half staff for Shimon Peres. Why? He's a former leader of a foreign country. This is the first time I've noticed this. Have we done this before? I just think it would be more right to keep our flags at half staff for the countless amount of soldiers lost in battle rather than a former foreign leader.

It was an official proclamation made by Obama, hence the reason your school did it.

It would probably be "more right" if you spent 10 minutes understanding the impact he's had on Israeli-U.S. relations dating back to President Kennedy, the work he's done to try to bring some degree of peace to the Middle East resulting in a Nobel Peace prize and the level of respect with which he was held on the world stage before you decided he isn't worthy of the tribute.

Had you chosen to do any research before rushing here to start a thread, you might have also discovered the flag is in fact, flown at half-staff on Memorial Day and Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day as a tribute to our troops as well as on 9/11 and on both Peace Officers and Firefighters Memorial Days as a tribute to those that have fallen domestically.
