Does anyone know who played the doctor? He's brilliant!

No one else thought it was a bit slow? I kept waiting for the big twist and hoping it would be worth it. I read an interview where the EP said the show will be "Lost"-like, with time shifts. That doesn't give me hope, as Lost really really lost itself throughout that series. Anyway I'll give This Is Us another week to see what the actual shape of the show will be, and then we'll see.
Watched it last night and really liked it more than I expected. A very strong pilot/opening episode. And I agree entirely with NYADGirl - my 2 favs. (But I've only watched 4!)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I liked it, but I'm hesitant. I guessed the twist when it was revealed the actor and woman were twins. Wish they saved that reveal for later in the episode so it didn't spoil the end for me. Curious where this goes, I love the cast.
I'm re-watching the pilot episode now. It's really interesting to see everything that's hidden in plain sight basically, after you know what happens at the end

I'm curious, how the twin thing revealed the twist to you? (Maybe I missed something)

Just sort of put two and two together. I assumed that the show wasn't going to involve a set of triplets and a set of twins. Plus, the marketing revealed there were complications with the pregnancy so it just clicked for me at that moment. And then I picked up on the hospital set and costuming (green tiles in the ER, Ventimiglia in denim on denim)
This show has a lot going for it even from just the pilot. I'm already interested to know the backstories (which I'm assuming will be told side-by-side with present day plots like in the pilot).

I can't go so far as to call it brilliant writing, but it's an entertaining hook. I do wonder how long they can keep it up before we all begin to notice the pattern, and will accurately predict what the twist will be each week. Do the writers plan on including a twist each week, or will that aspect need to fade if/when it's no longer able to hold its 'surprise' value?
Right now, I'm enjoying the characters and I'm interested in seeing where they'll develop. For example, even though they're my favorites, the overweight couple probably shouldn't try to sustain the Jerry Springer stereotypes they're currently portraying ("I hate myself and I lash out at the world because I can't lose weight" and "all overweight people are jovial". I think they're fine as introductions to the characters, but will become cloying if they remain married to them.
Another outstanding episode. From everything we've heard so far, it's obvious that Milo's character is not in the picture anymore (I've taken it to mean that he's died), so the ending tonight was very interesting. In a way, this show has been like reading the first page of a book and then the last. I can't wait to she what happened in between those pages.
I've found both episodes worth a re-visit. I've been able to watch them both live (I'd seen the pilot back in the Spring), but also watched my recording after the broadcast. It's so interesting to go back and look for 'clues'.
I love the way this is unfolding and the way they use the episodes to set up the next.
