Javi said: "And ticket prices for this show are so high!  I have bought over 15 tickets for my trip to NY in April/May, but I still haven't bought a ticket for this one.  I also blame Ticketmaster's booking system that won't allow me to book a single ticket if there's seats next to it.  Like if there's four seats in row F and I want to buy the first seat closest to the aisle of the four (just one ticket), it won't let me buy it because it says I can't leave a gap or a seat left by itself even though this is not the case because there might be 3, 4, 5, 6 tickets next to it. Has anyone had this same problem?  It's not just with this show. It's with all Ticketmaster shows, so it's something with their system.

I have had this problem (along with many other problems) with online Ticketmaster sales several times.  But if you call Ticketmaster to place your order, they will sell you the individual seat.  Same goes if you want to buy 2 seats from a group of 3 available seats, or you want to buy 3 from an available group of 4 etc.

Yeah, I did email them about it and they said to call them, but I'm in Australia, so if I end up on hold, it gets very expensive.  It seems they know the issue but don't want to fix it.  Just frustrating.  I don't have these problems with Telecharge.  Glad to hear it's not just me.  :)

Fingers crossed this show is great. I bought tickets for several shows this spring and this is the only one that I am second guessing my decision of not waiting for reviews. (not buyers remorse but close?)  One reason for the second guessing is the high price of the tickets. I'm ok with it if the show is great.....but that doesn't seem like a certainty.

There is nothing worse than TELECHARGE, the biggest scammer of all... Give me TICKETMASTER any day...

And the show must be trying to appeal to mass audiences who saw the movie... Ugh...I have anxiety just thinking about this show flopping... It doesn't look good... GROUNDHOG DAY to Take the August Wilson, Spring 2017

We get it.

However i did buy tickets to see it in April. I paid more for this show than I did for Hello Dolly, War Paint, or Anastasia.... so I'm hoping it'll be good

Adding to what others have said, I cannot believe the cheapest seat at this show is $98.75 with fees. This is ridiculous.

I paid $60 to see Hamilton when it opened - before all of the hype and before it was hard to get tickets...before there was such a demand. Why are they charging so much for Groundhog?! My seats to Sunday in the Park are cheaper as well and that has Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford headlining not to mention a well-proven book and score. I also just bought a seat to a new play by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins for a whopping $36 and that wasn't a discount.

I just don't get it. Supply and demand, yes. But there is no demand for Groundhog. Amiright? The entire theater was pretty much up for grabs but I didn't make a purchase because I'm not paying that much. I don't get it. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

It may be wrong, but now I hope this bombs from simply the gall of seeing those prices.

Broadway musicals are expensive to run...the industry won't survive on $36 or $60 tickets.

I often post here on my phone, so please excuse issues with grammar, paragraphing and spelling :).

Then how are other Broadway shows able to make it happen? I mentioned two in my post. I just saw that Sunset Blvd. is also selling seats at $65.

Well for the most part, shows are financial failures - so they don't. But for the successful ones, the sale of more expensive tickets makes it possible - particularly when we are talking about heavily, heavily discounted tickets such as rush seats etc. or lottery tickets etc.

Of course, that doesn't mean smart producers shouldn't set or adjust the pricing appropriately to account for supply/demand, within reason. But I just feel we need to keep in mind that this is an expensive business and the only way it will be sustainable is if people do actually pay a reasonable sum for it.

I feel conflict within myself sometimes - for example, I bought a rush ticket for Bridges of Madison County. I loved that show, but at the cost I paid for it I did nothing to help it survive financially.

If the tickets don't sell for the $90+ price tag, they'll have to discount. That's just the way it works.

Is there a discount code for "Groundhog" out yet?

I thought this thread was a bit dramatic before I checked the ticket prices myself and noticed how absurd they are. I'll wait for a discount.

Is it just me, or is the marketing for this show extremely unappealing? The marquee is SO dull and lifeless -- same with their website and the same is true of their ads I have seen online and in print.

This is probably the one new musical opening this Spring where there's no word of mouth or any type of hype.

A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.

So did a slew of shows that failed after transferring to New York. Just saying.

I can't immediately think of a show that got reviews as exciting as Groundhog Day that didn't run for at least a few years.

Regardless... Brian was responding to posters who are acting like there's no buzz or word of mouth.

I do find unusual to see shows release tickets and high tickets for that matter, without a decent ad campaign.

I really hope they find something better than the white background with a groundhog on it for the rest of the promotion they do for it. It's far too simple and unattractive.

I feel like this show would need a pr campaign that's overly repetitive. Like they should go on the same talk show two days in a row or give out the same tickets at the same prices over the course of multiple days.

While a clever idea, it won't catch on to the general public that type of advertising will reach. At least I don't think so.
