Considering a birthday trip to either fiddler or the color purple - for folks that have seen both, which did you enjoy more? I'm a big Danny Burstein fan, I loved the Fiddler number they on the Tonys, but everyone's been saying that this production of Color Purple isn't to be missed. Appreciate any feedback!
The Color Purple. FIDDLER will probably be revived again in 5-8 years anyway.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
While I have not seen Color Purple yet (even though I wish to), I have to defend Fiddler a little before everyone bashes it. I saw it in January with quite a few family members and every single one of us loved it (and my family are fans of Fiddler and have seen many versions). We all felt that everything was nearly perfect including the cast and direction. While Color Purple is excellent I'm sure, you really should consider Fiddler also before it closes. It is highly underrated, and really shouldn't be missed if you ask me.

I didn't care for this production of Fiddler, but yes The Color Purple is so spectacular, there is no contest.
Another vote for The Color Purple. I've seen it twice and going a third time. Love sharing theater experiences with friends. And see it before Heather leaves!
That's a really tricky choice as, in my opinion, both are 5 star productions. I am sure you will enjoy either one, but personally I preferred Fiddler. Maybe watch some more clips of each shows to find out a little more? Hope you enjoy which ever one you choose!
Just saw it for a second time, can't impress enough how wonderful The Color Purple is. And I'll second the comment about trying to it with Heather, both she and Erivo are giving mind blowing performances! Fiddler is very good but there is nothing extraordinary about it. Some very good performances no doubt, but nothing that future productions (or past) won't also do.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Absolutely nothing against Fiddler, as I really enjoyed it (especially Danny Burstein's terrific performance...) but TCP is just THAT good that it shouldn't be missed!
Here's one more voice in the chorus of unanimity. TCP was that edge-of-your-seat chills-down-your-spine kind of theater we're always looking for and seldom find. We saw it with JHud from the back of the mezzanine, but the poor seats didn't matter a bit; the power and intimacy of the performances easily reached to the last rows.
I was indeed one of the Fiddler bashers back when it opened, so no need to repeat those thoughts here. Easy easy choice.
I have seen Fiddler twice. Color Purple once. Color Purple wins. Erivo's performance is that good. I am coming back in December. Praying Erivo is still part of the cast.
I thought I was "Fidder"'d out but decided to give the current production a try. So glad I did. it is beyond wonderful, and Danny Burstein's performance is not to be missed.
I've seen Cynthia Erivo perform live and she is indeed a mighty force. But I'm skipping this Color Purple because I do not wish to put another dime in the coffers of Alice Walker, whose views on Jews and Israel I--as well as the Anti-Defamation League--find hateful and repugnant. If Cynthia and Heather Headley were in another show, no problem.
I know some can separate philosophies from art. In this instance I can't. Your choice.

Is this confirmed? I know some speculated her contract was up in November at the one year mark. I am headed to NYC in Dec and would love to see her one more time.
I have the same question as Olivia11. Is it confirmed Cynthia Erivo will not be leaving until January? I am also ready to purchase tickets for December but want to make sure she is still in the show.

Ditto to the above questions. If she only has a year contract, it should end in November. However, I want to believe her contract will run at least through the holidays.
