I was just thinking this out of curiosity. Is there a possibility that Miss Saigon could go past its January 2018 closing date if it's selling well on Broadway? I know that the plan has been all along to have it do a stint on Broadway then tour it. But, if it's selling well enough might CamMak delay the tour? Say what you will about the production, keep in mind that this is the first time this show has ever been on Broadway since it's original unlike Les Miserables which, although a show I love, I feel that it's time for it to go.
From what I understand it's open-ended in mentality with the "limited run" used to safe face if ticket sales are abysmal. If they're sturdy they'll get press by "extending."
I can not imagine that there is no contingency plan ready to put in place if ticket sales are strong and the production is proving popular and profitable.
Wasn't the current revival of LES MIS billed as a "limited engagement"?
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
I did a google search on this production regarding it being billed as a limited run. Nothing came up. I do know that the Broadhurst revival was intended to be a limited run as the last tour stop. But, due to high popular demand the show extended beyond that.

They have done a great job hiding this show for the last 15 years. Les Mis has always been out there with the 10th Anniversary dvd and the 25th anniversary dvd, the film, which all works as promotion. It's out there, it lives in the mind of people. That is why the ticket sales of Les Mis keep doing so well. It's a business. A whole generation has no idea what Miss Saigon is. It's only since the recent London revival that people start to pay attention to the show again. But it takes time and a whole lot of promotion and exposure to get to that same point.
