CBS is producing, and I'm told the script is actually pretty good.

According to the website this production uses scripts from the show's first season adapted for the stage:

Utilizing the original award winning television scripts skillfully adapted from the first season of NBC’s long-running sitcom....

Why would CBS produce a show based off of a NBC tv series

CHEERS only aired on NBC. The show was produced by Paramount Television. Paramount Television is now owned by CBS, Inc.

As per Wikipedia:

At the end of 2005, Viacom split into two completely separate companies, one of which was called CBS Corporation, the other retaining the Viacom name. Despite Paramount Pictures being owned by the new Viacom, CBS inherited Paramount Television, as well as the right to retain the Paramount name. On January 16, 2006, CBS renamed the unit CBS Paramount Television.[3]Paramount's final series was Courting Alex (co-produced with Touchstone Television) for CBS.

^your post sounds like the entire tour has been cancelled when only the rest of the Chicago run has been cancelled.

Edit: I see you edited your post.

Yeah, I edited the post because the official information is unclear, but my understanding is that the tour has been cancelled.

We got free tickets (they were quite easy to come by). It wasn't my thing but it was quite lovely. I think if you were the kind of person who liked Cheers and wanted to see Cheers on stage you would have liked it an awful lot. Doesn't seem like there were many of those kind people though.

Sad this couldn't find an audience...

The photo of the set looked great, very close to the actual show...
