Hi,

So I have been reading into the theatermania gold club and it seems "too good to be true". Could anyone explain this membership and tell me what shows are currently in the promo?

There is a very lengthy thread already on Gold Club and the other seat-filler organizations. I suggest you do a search to answer your questions. I recently dropped Gold Club because I wasn't seeing anything worthwhile among its offerings.

Also, according to its terms of service, members cannot post online what the the club is listing. Sign up for the monthly membership and try it out for yourself. It's $10.99 a month.

I tried it for a year and used it once. I thought it was pretty awful.

There's rarely, if ever, anything worth while on it. Totally a waste of money.

Gold Club is a complete waste of space.  Theater Extras and Play by Play are much better and both worth having, though they often have the same offerings but if you like to see everything they are both great.

Gold Club used to have great selections years ago and also would offer a pair of Broadway tickets upon joining, but it hasn't had a Broadway show in years.  I'm with Theater Extras now and saw at least ten Broadway shows last year through it as well as off-Broadway, City Center, Lincoln Center events weekly and a Yankee game.  You do have to check often to catch the Broadway shows.

Misleading ..... from June 2015 (a little over a year) I have seen 6 Broadway shows through Gold Club, as well as at least a dozen off-Broadway productions (mostly from major non-profits), and several other events. Is it the greatest thing ever? No, but I do feel I am getting decent value.

I tried it for a few months this year. Completely useless.

If you saw 6 broadway shows and over a dozen off broadway shows, I would say that's really good value.  From what people have said on here, I have found this not to be the case with Gold Club though I haven't been a member with them in the past year.  Has anyone else had such good luck with Gold Club recently?  I'm really good about checking the sites regularly to catch everything in time, but last I was a member all they offered were crappy comedy clubs and the like.

If you had to choose between Theater Extras and Play by Play for more Broadway offerings,  what one would you choose?

It depends on what you're looking for. I haven't tried Play by Play to be able to compare the two but in spite of some slow months, overall I've been happy with my Gold Club experience. As macnyc noted, I can't tell you what has been offered but after a while you'll get a sense of which theaters have relationships with the clubs. For me, it's worthwhile to stick with Gold Club for those specific theaters and then take a chance on something different once in a while. Sure, everything hasn't been great but I've also had some amazing show and concert experiences that I wouldn't have gone to if I'd had to pay full price for a ticket.

I got an email from TheaterMania advertising that if you sign up for Gold Club, you'll receive two Holiday Inn tickets which "...pays for itself immediately..." (in case anyone didn't know and is interested).

Or....if you can do Hiptix and get row J orch for $25...you don't have to belong to a pointless club with false perks and advertisements.

Plus, many people, like me, don't qualify for Hiptix.

I joined the Gold Club last month with a one month membership (to try it out) and recently canceled.  I did see several off off Broadway shows with it, which I enjoyed.  I cancelled because I'm pretty booked with shows the next couple months, but I intended to join again when I don't have so much to do.  If I already didn't have tickets to Holiday Inn (from Hiptix) I would have definitely rejoined now for the year.  The membership basically pays for itself with the free tickets and plus you get the opportunity to see some interesting shows in NY.  I've decided to wait until the next promotion with free Broadway tickets to rejoin.

I belonged to the Gold Club for a number of years and I thought it was fantastic. Over that time I saw at least 25 Broadway shows. The last year or two have not been that great, however. I think part of the issue is that they have more members and the good stuff gets snatched up incredibly quickly. Also, there is no way of knowing what has been offered. Once it is sold out it is gone from the website. They occasionally send a newsletter stating what as been offered, and even though I check the site repeatedly all day, I missed two shows I would have loved to see. The two groups I currently belong to, TheaterExtras and Will Call Club are, in my opinion better. You can see what has been offered (indicated as sold out) and they also post the date which the website has been refreshed--neither of which Gold Club does. Will Call Club is only $20 to join and well worth it. They occasionally offer Broadway shows.

I'd recommend Play-by-play any day over the Gold Club. Much better offerings in my opinion

I canceled my PBP during the Pandemic - is it worth re-subscribing now that the world is slowly coming back to life?

I was also wondering if more shows would be available as a way to kickstart audiences going to shows again

I haven't been using Gold Club as much recently because I also started subscribing to Theater Extras, but I felt like I haven't heard from them in a while (since they usually send emails whenever a new show is available) and it seems like there's nothing on their site at all.  Does anyone know what's happening?
