Hey BWW -

I bought a TDF ticket for a play on Bway next week before realizing I have to go out of town that day. I know I could most likely past date the ticket, but my question is, is if my ticket is never picked up from the box office, will I still be able to past date it? Can I pick it up the day after the performance? (It says to pick up the ticket 30mins prior to curtain, but I will be leaving town early that afternoon).

In my 5+ years of regularly seeing shows on Bway, this has never happened to me before, and I feel like quite the dunce. Thank you!

Yes - you can still past date even if you never picked up the ticket. I did this with An American In Paris. The box office already will have your ticket with the barcode on it that they would want to check if you had the ticket in your possession. So, yes, it can definitely be done!

You might need to pick it up first, though. Everytime I past date a ticket through Telecharge or Ticketmaster, I need to read them the information that's actually on the ticket. But call them first to find out.

I have never tried, but my impression from the TDF website and other posters is that TDF tickets can't be past dated. I'm not 100% sure about that, but it stood out in your post as the thing more likely to cause a problem than not picking the ticket up.

Asked 2 friends that work box office. Bwayphreak is correct. When you get back just go to the box office. They will know you didn't pick them up and you can past date TDF tickets. You just go in or call on the day you want to see the show. If seats are available they will switch them out. Past dating is done day of performance.

You can almost always past date a TDF voucher, pending available seat(s) for your desired performance date. Word of advice: I've had much better luck doing this by contacting/going to the theatre box office as opposed to asking for assistance from  TDF staff. The box office staff are always pretty accommodating. TDF'ers? It depends on who gets your request.

Is there typically a limit on how long you can past date a ticket?  I have a couple from last year that I never used due to travel issues - would like to "cash in" on them now.

When you say "past date," do you mean attend a different time? I thought you could never do that. What are the common restrictions?

Yes. Many shows will allow you to do this - but not all.

Usually, you are limited to when you can go (often Tues - thurs) and when you can purchase  (often day of, only)

Note: I've never done this, so this is relying on my memory of what's been said previously.

What if I want to past date a ticket that stayed at the box office?

I would print out whatever info is on TDF (before it disappears) and your email confirmation just to be safe whenever you go to the box office.

To those asking, it's best to call up TDF, Telecharge, or wherever you bought your tickets to find out the policy. It's usually same day, at the discretion of the box office, etc. I tried to call to past-date In the Green recently when the seat map showed only one or two tickets left and they said no so I had to scramble to just buy a new ticket. It's not a guarantee and sometimes you have to wait until close to show time which is a hassle.

I know a few shows have allowed past dating for the entire run of the show. Not sure what the policy is on shows like Phantom, Chicago and Wicked that have been running for as long as they have.

My understanding is that unused tickets are good for the entire run of the show (or possibly the entire run of the show at its present theatre - so if you try to past date a Chicago ticket from the Shubert or the Rodgers, you may be out of luck.). A friend of mine who works for the Shuberts once related to me the story of a customer who was able to past date a Phantom ticket that was literally decades old.
