I was in a McDonald's for the first time in years and I noticed something that I've never noticed before. For the most part all of their beverage options are coke except for one, dr. pepper. Why do they serve dr. pepper when they could serve the Coke version, mr. Pibb?

I don't really know the exact answer to your question as it pertains to McDonald's, but I do know something that make pertain.
Where I live in a mid-south-eastern city, in grocery stores, if, for instance, 12 packs of Coke, Sprite, etc are on sale, then 12 packs of Dr P will be also.
I think the truck that delivers Coke to stores delivers Dr Pepper and Snapple too. Maybe same with some fast food. On the other hand, not fast food, but O'Charley's here, the have Pepsi, not Coke, but they DO serve Dr Pepper.
I think Taco Bell here has Mr Pibb (don't hold me to that, usually have water there); otherwise it's Pepsi/Mt Dew. So maybe there's it's like the reverse?
Anyway, maybe Dr Pepper is in some no man's land and where/how it's distributed has to do with local contracts or whatever. ??

Dr. Pepper is not owned by either Coca-Cola or PepsiCo. In the past they have contracted out bottling and distribution to both companies, and there are a small handful from both companies who continue to do so, though the large majority of their bottling and distribution is now done through their own group.

I ate healthy.Plain cheeseburger,fries and diet coke Love their fries almost as much as Nathan's fries

Mr Roxy, if you ask for the fries without salt, you will always get a fresh, hot order. If you like the salt, then you just add it on later. Got tired of cold fries.

Surprisingly they came with salt and were piping hot. Nothing better.
Have to admit ,I will always miss the 2 floor Nathan's that used to inhabit Times Square .

ARTMAN! Thanks for the tip. Though - this may be the weirdo in me - I actually prefer them when they've been sitting for about 5 mins. When they're fresh outta the fryer they're too hot and the flavor hasn't quite... coalesced?
Wait, I mean, what are french fries? Is that a new form of kale?

Or you can just ask for fresh fries. Having worked at a McDonald's for 5 years it's far less hassle to just ask someone than to try and be sly and then ask at the window "Can I have some salt..."

There's no sly about it. At the McDonalds where I live, asking for fresh fries still gives you cold fries And maybe something extra that I didn't ask for. But you would know. 5 years. I never worked there.
