Sadly it looks like we may have 5 empty theatres this fall, with shows waiting to the spring to load their new show in.

Looks like we are going to have the:

Helen Hayes

Cort

Music Box

Beaumont

Barrymore

Nederlander

Any chance these might have a show this year?

Helen Hayes is no longer a Broadway house. So that makes only 4. The Cort is being renovated this Fall & won't be available until the Spring. GOTTA DANCE is eyeing the Music Box.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

When it reopens, the Helen Hayes will remain a Broadway house.

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Significant Other is probably aiming for the Cort. (they plan to open in Spring).

Looks like we could use a Sesame Street show starring The Count!

I bet we'll see shows sneak in before the spring

The Barrymore is hosting Alton Brown Live for a week in November and then The Present begins previews on December 17th.

Cort will have its renovations, but then I predict COME FROM AWAY there in late spring. For the Music Box, I think THE BANDSTAND. I see HALF TIME going into like maybe the Hirschfeld or Marquis. Who knows what Lincoln Center has planned for the Beaumont, but that revival of MY FAIR LADY is definitely getting some buzz. THE PRESENT has the Barrymore. And for the Nederlander I'm hoping something like PHOTOGRAPH 51 goes in there for a limited run in the fall to make way for a WAR PAINT transfer in the spring (I hope).

Significant Other has the Booth, not the Cort. But good job making things up, broadwayguy91.

Everyone around here keeps talking about the Cort being renovated, but there has been no mention of it by the Shuberts or anyone else. That's mostly come from posters here thinking it should be renovated, not from any of the powers that be saying it will be renovated.

I know someone said war paint was going into the Nederlander (and then someone else said it's going into a shubert house) but I think it would be a perfect fit for the Walter Kerr in the spring.

Wow, that would really be like Grey Gardens all over again! It would be a good fit.

That was posted before it was known Significant Other had the Booth, so maybe dial back the rudeness.

It's possible that there will be a limited run tenant at the Cort, but a massive Hard Rock Hotel will be built next  door to it, opening in Spring 2019. During some of that time, the Shubert Organization is planning to take the Cort offline for renovations, similar to their recent restorations of the Belasco, Longacre, Booth, Golden, Jacobs and Schoenfeld Theatres.

In the image below, that's the Cort to the left of this behemoth.

Wow, that's crazy. Cool info, smaxie, thank you. With all those other theatre renovations, there were press releases/articles written about the planned downtime, but I couldn't find anything announced about the Cort. Great find.

I wonder if Scott Rudin will be correct about the imperial going offline so they can build that new theatre next to it.

I believe the only "open" houses for the spring are:
Lyceum
Walter Kerr

Am I missing anything?

Would love to see a new theater built in that parking lot on West 45th! It's a huge space and to think it's prime retail and no one has snatched it up! We need more mid-size Broadway theaters.

I wonder how accurate the rumors are that SWEET CHARITY will take one of those theaters(more so the Hudson).
