Does anyone know why there won't be a tour for She Loves Me? Same for the On the 20th Century.

it's not always standard that RTC shows tour. In the last few years, only Anything Goes and Cabaret have toured. There is potential for Holiday Inn to tour after the Broadway run (they have a general manager).

Think of Roundabout as just a large regional theatre rather than just like their commercial counterparts.

I also think Anything Goes and Cabaret are significantly more sellable and well-known names across the country than 20th Century and even She Loves Me.

It's nonprofit theater. The shows aren't brought to Broadway with the intention of commercializing and touring, like most commercial projections, Roundabout's Cabaret "return" not withstanding. Most shows Roundabout mounts would have little success on tour and with no commercial producers attached to their productions, no one wants to front the money unless there is a serious opportunity.

I have to wonder if the road voters for the Tonys would have preferred a She Loves Me win for Best Revival over The Color Purple in order to justify a tour of the former. Presenting The Color Purple as a part of a subscription series so soon after the last tour isn't going to make a whole lot of sense to more casual theater goers around the country who aren't aware of how drastically different this production is. Despite its less recognizable title, She Loves Me seems like it'd be a safer bet for the sake of offering variety.

Given that Hamilton will be bundled into a lot of the touring series for that season, though, presenters shouldn't have much to worry about either way.

The fact that roundabout went on board with the BroadwayHD live stream should have clued you into the fact that there were no plans to tour.

Furthermore, I'm betting Zachary Levi and Jane Krakowski (and to a certain extent, Laura Benanti) drew in a lot of the audience which contributed to the decent grosses during its run . A tour would never be able to gross the same as the run at studio 54

God I wish but as everyone says it's just not anywhere near feasible. Especially because as broadwayguy91 says it was probably the stars that had it selling so well (I love the show but it's just not a blockbuster hit in that way).

I'd be there every damn night if it came to Pittsburgh though. Might even splurge for seats close-up one or two of them.

It's part of Roundabout's mission to produce revivals of shows that could not otherwise be seen because commercial producers aren't interested in them. They can afford to do them, because they are a non-profit, and because they have a large subscriber base who buy into that mission. And, because of their limited runs, they can get big stars to do their shows who might not be interested or don't have the time to commit a year to do a commercial run (granted it's successful).

I doubt On The 20th Century, and even She Loves Me, would sell nearly as well without the A-List cast that they had, and they couldn't sell out the massive touring houses. The American Airlines and Studio 54 on the smaller end of Broadway houses, and a large percentage of the seats in taken up by subscribers.

Every once in a while they will have a big hit like Anything Goes or Cabaret, that gets extended several times (by more than just a few weeks) and shows that it can sell without the subscribers. (Actually, I'm not even sure why AG was at Roundabout, I feel that's a well known enough title to justify a commercial revival but anyway).

I love what Roundabout does, and I love a classic Broadway show, and I wish that more people could see them, but it's not what they are trying to do. I hope though that the She Loves Me stream was a big success (I don't think they ever released any numbers like DLL did?) and they might do more of that in the future!

Weren't they going to produce a parade revival, but opted to go with the cabaret re-revival.

Normally I would say that a show like She Loves Me couldn't tour successfully, but what Cupid Boy said is very true: since Hamilton is going to be in a lot of the touring series, it wouldn't be a problem since the only way for people to guarantee their Hamilton tickets in the first place is to subscribe to the entire season.

I'd be very interested to hear numbers demos etc. for the stream. DLL as you said was very upfront about it and one can assume this proven success was what warranted this one.
