At the stage door about a week and a half ago I asked Brian Stokes Mitchell if there were any plans, he said he hadn't heard anything, but he hoped there would be one. So unfortunately, I'm not getting my hopes up too high :/
I still haven't gotten my hands on that, sadly. It seems unfathomable to me that Audra McDonald would appear in a Broadway musical and it doesn't receive a cast recording. That's crazy.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
I too am baffled. A show of this importance, with such an amazing cast deserves a cast album. Maybe somebody with money to burn could get it done. Heck, I'd kickstart this if given the opportunity.
I'm truly shocked that they haven't decided to record this yet, either. I know the costs associated with a cast recording can be quite large, especially paying an ensemble of this size, when necessary, but you would think Audra's fan base along would be insurance enough that it would sell well, plus all of the other well-known actors in the cast with followings of their own. And now factor in that Brandon Victor Dixon may have an increasing fan base once he steps into Hamilton, who may after the fact buy this recording, and it seems like an easy decision. I'll be so disappointed if this doesn't come to fruition.
In the past, I would have wanted this to. Since I have hundreds of CD's I never listen to and never will, I have decided to no longer buy cast albums so they can just sit and gather dust. If I was 20 years younger, I would continue buying them but I am not. It was a painful but necessary decision.
I have a slightly off topic question. If "They Won't Remember You" isn't from the original show, which I think it's not, who wrote it? I can't seem to find that information.
MrRoxy, I feel the same way for the most part, but I definitely would purchase a recording of Shuffle Along. In the past I would purchase recordings whether or not I saw the show. Now purchases are made to shows I've seen and really liked.

Rudin dropped the ball here. Bottom line is they did not have a star quality replacement for Audra. They should have done this or waited un til next season when her calendar was clear.
Or they should have given Rhiannon and Savion a chance to build word of mouth.

Didn't someone suggest Vanessa Williams on here at some point? IDK if she could have done it, but there could be plenty of choices for someone to come in. When they announced Audra would be replaced (before Rhiannon) my first instinct would've been Anika Noni Rose or Tonya Pinkins based on their past experience with Wolfe. This show deserves so much more life than it has already has had. Glad I got a chance to see it. Was supposed to see it again the first week of August. :-/
