The legendary Irish actress Anita Reeves has passed away at the untimely age of 67. Much loved in Ireland for her great warmth and comic gift she had a career spanning several decades. From beginnings in panto and musicals she later became one of the country's most inspired interpreters of the Irish repertoire with terrific performances in O'Casey, Hugh Leonard and John B. Keane. Her greatest work was the creation of Maggie in Brian Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa at The Abbey, The National and in the West End. She also created Aunt Kate in The Cripple of Inishmaan. The Irish theatre is a colder place today without the glowing light of her talent and warmth.
