Picking a show for a final slot in November...

So, my next Broadway trip is going to be November 15 to the 20th.  I will be seeing 7 shows in 5 days, and I already have tickets locked in for Holiday Inn (Tuesday night), Dear Evan Hansen (Wednesday night), Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812 (Friday night), The Encounter and The Front Page (Saturday afternoon and evening, respectively).  I'm also planning to pick up a ticket for Falsettos when that goes on sale in August.  So, that leaves one slot open.

 

I would possibly like to see a play, since my line up so far is largely musicals, except for the two shows on Saturday.  At the moment, I'm considering Les Liaisons Dangereusus.  I saw the movie with John Malkovich and Glenn Close a long time ago, but have never actually seen the play.  Has anyone here ever seen the original 1987 Broadway production, or the 2008 revival?  Is it worth seeing?

 

I'm also open to some Off Broadway, but don't know much about what would be worth seeking out at the moment, so any recommendations there that I can look into would be appreciated.

Your choice of shows looks great .... almost identical to my 5 day trip in December lol!  As far as off-Broadway, the two shows I am really looking forward to are Othello at NY Theatre Workshop and Ride The Cyclone at MCC Theater.  I also love the Mint Theatre but I don't know if they will have a production going on in November.

 

My advice is to wait another month or two.  There is at least one theatre, maybe two, without a show for this winter and I am hoping that something like Camp David, Hangmen, Photograph 51, or Master Builder (though I think Fiennes is now busy this winter so that one probably won't happen) will announce soon.  I often regret not keeping a slot or two open on my schedule because something I really want to see announces after I have already formalized my plans.  This time I am keeping two slots open in case a dynamite play announces or Hamilton tickets are unexpectedly bequeathed to me in the will of a distant, as yet unknown, relative.   :o)

 

(On my short list of back up plans is Les Liasons and the Encounter).

That is another possibility, as I saw the original production back when it first started, but I have not yet seen the revival.  My only concern is that Cynthia Erivo may not be in the production by the time I'm out there.

I'll also be there in November.  I haven't bought any tickets yet, but it looks like we will be at many of the same shows.  I agree with JPeterman about saving a slot and waiting a little.  Sometimes things come up and I have kicked myself for having booked everything so early.  

Agree with your concern about Color Purple but you might want to wait and see if she (and Danielle Brooks) are still there.  If so, I recommend.  Cynthia Erivo is transcendent.

Some other shows I'm thinking about are:

Heisenburg - play on BW - played off BW last year (?) and you could see if it interests you

Sweat at the Public.  Lynn Nottage's latest.  Played DC last year.  

Sweet Charity with Sutton Foster at New Group.  No dates announced except November

Master Harold . . . and the Boys at Signature - starts Oct 18 and not sure how long it will play but on my list to watch for

Roads to Home at Primary Stages - Horton Foote who I like.  Again, no dates announced, just Sept - Nov.

Notes from the Field at Second Stage - new from Anna Deveare Smith - not sure about dates for this, but starts in October.

I love planning.

I forgot about Ride the Cyclone.  A woman I'm friends with is friends with the person who wrote the show, so that definitely should be on my radar.  I'll have to look up where the theater it's playing at is located, as I've never been to the MCC Theater..

 

And yes, I'm not making any rash decisions, as I know there can still be an announcement made.  Just open to suggestions.  Thanks to everyone for their responses so far!

MCC is at the Lortel, on Christopher St just off Hudson St in the West Village. It's a short walk from the #1 train.

I saw the upcoming production of Liaisons in London and it's a very good production of a thrilling play... Particularly, Janet McTeer is wonderful in it, see it if you can!

Yup, now I'm considering a two show day with Dear Evan Hansen and Ride the Cyclone.

To the OP, you might consider Sweet Charity with Sutton Foster too.

I did see the revival of Sweet Charity with Christina Applegate a few years ago, but Foster may make it worth while.

Have you seen all of the shows from the 15/16 season yet? If you haven't seen Waitress, I would highly recommend it. Jessie Mueller is a force of nature, and I thought the show was wonderful, with music I literally cannot stop humming for the life of me.

Aside from The Color Purple revival and Fiddler on the Roof (which I'm not that interested in), I believe I have seen the shows from the 15/16 season that are still playing.  I come to NY twice a year for theater trips.  My last visit was in April, and I saw 8 shows -  She Loves Me, School of Rock, The Humans, The Father, Shuffle Along, Bright Star, Blackbird and Waitress.
