Back to back Sunday shows#1

Hi everyone! I will be in NYC from July 12-20. I already picked out the shows I want to see, and need advice on what the best plan is when seeing 2 Sunday (July 17) shows- School of Rock at 6pm and something before that at 3pm. My choices are- Waitress, Color Purple, Aladdin, and Fiddler. I know its going to be a mad dash to get to Winter Garden after whichever show I pick, but which one has the shortest run time or closest proximity to Winter Garden? I've googled the run times but would like to hear from people who have seen the shows!

Thanks for the help! I have a lineup of other shows already scheduled, so no need to suggest other shows! This is a once in a lifetime trip and I am trying to cram in as many shows as I can!

Fiddler is the closest to the Winter Garden, about a block and a half down Broadway. and when I saw it, seems like I was out of the theater in 2.5 hours although I can't remember exactly.

Waitress is the next closest, one block down 47th and then 4 blocks down Broadway

Here's a great visual for you   http://www.theatermania.com/broadway/theater-map/

But Fiddler is easily the closest, Aladdin the furthest.

Any info people can give you about running time isn't really going to be any more accurate than what's posted either on their wesites or what is posted at Broadway.com

(And remember, while not ideal, shows don't actually start on time which gives you a few extra minutes!)

Awesome!! Thank you so much!

When the run time is listed online- its that plus the intermission? Or all together? I've worked at several theatres in Dallas and each one reports it differently. Thank you!

Usually includes the intermission.  I would personally try for The Color Purple first. Fiddler is my second choice but I felt that ran s little longer so you may be cutting it close.

And while I know you weren't looking for opinions.....The Color Purple is easily the best show on your list, with Cynthia Erivo's performance not to be missed.

In terms of picking the actual show itself, I would suggest The Color Purple. It's 8 blocks, which will be tight, but I think you can make it. Waitress is 2 blocks closer to the theatre, and therefore slightly less of a risk, but I think The Color Purple is a better show. 8 blocks isn't actually that far for NYC, but given the Times Square crowds, it will be tougher.

Other tips for your mad dash:

--MAKE SURE you go to the bathroom at the intermission of your matinee

--Bring some kind of snack with you that you can quickly scarf down between the shows (not DURING either show).

--Have a full water bottle

--Be polite but assertive as you're walking through the crowds on your way to the Winter Garden. Keep to the sides of the sidewalk when possible, and weave through the crowd as best as you can. If you have to, and if it's SAFE, walk just off the curb.

Oh I can't wait to see Color Purple!! I had actually originally planned it for that Sunday afternoon until I started thinking about the timing math and was like uh oh! I'm so excited!

I think TCP is 2 hours 30 minutes. I took my dad to a 7p show and we were able to catch the 9:50 bus home from the port authority with no trouble. I thought it was longer and we'd have to get 10:30 bus so it was a pleasant surprise. I think you'll be fine with that one. I think you're going to be ok with most as long as you can walk fast!

If you're planning to see them all anyway I would do the color purple another time. I think you'll be crunched for time. You could probably do it, and I would tell you to try if it was your only opportunity, but I seem to remember getting out at about 2 hrs 40 minutes. And while it's only two blocks farther than waitress, those two blocks are Times Square.

So I absolutely would not miss the color purple on your trip, but if you're seeing them both anyway, I would see waitress Sunday. (Fiddler is closest but it's the longest as well I believe.)
