He was injured some time ago and I don't believe is coming back.

We saw it about a month  and a half ago and his understudy did it and was quite good. Believe he is gone to Never Never Land for good

Alfie and Michael Ball are working on an album and a concert tour together in November.

Here they are singing EMPTY CHAIRS together  --

It's a reversal of roles -- Alfie singing Marius's song ( sung by Michael for the original London staging of Les Miserables).  Years back, Michael sang the role of Valjean in a special concert at Windsor Castle for The Queen and the PM of France during the latter's state visit.

Michael and Alfie have also appeared on stage together in the ENO's KISMET.

Sorry for the misleading post. Typing on a moving train is loaded with disadvantages.

I believe Tony was originally scheduled till July 10th, not sure if that has changed nor am I sure if Alfie will be coming back.

The original date was July 10 but then Tony was on the Today show the week after the Tony awards where he said he was in the show until the end of August

Just this past week, Alfie's photo was removed from the front of the theater and a second picture of Tony - with his name - was added to the front of the theater. Alfie may have been injured during some of the more athletic dance moves that the show requires..as he is definitely a singer and not a dancer.

It will be interesting to see if Alfie still opens the show in London as scheduled..I would imagine the dancing would need to be modified for him.

And yes..also love Tony in the role (I was there yesterday too).

I'm so glad to hear that Tony seems to be sticking around longer than expected because I've been dying to see him in the role and with the original limited runs I didn't get to.

Carolee Carmello is also back this week and staying for the rest of the run.

It's way more likely that he didn't have the vocal stamina for the show. Opera singers don't do 8 shows a week.

Are you kidding me? Being a classically trained singer myself, I can fully state that he could handle a musical theatre score 8 times a week. Opera runs are usually 2-3 performances here and then, and then months apart. Singing real opera requires very strong vocal technique and while that technique is basis for any singing, singing opera is different from singing musical theatre. Trust me this was not a vocal injury/problem. In the unlikely case it was I would be super shocked because if Alfie couldn't handle a pop musical theatre score 8 times a week, he would have no business attempting opera. (Sorry for lack of punctuation etc, this is something I'm passionate about)

Thanks, I missed that.

It does sound like he had  a physical injury and not vocal problems.

Nope, not kidding at all. I will say that I do not know why Mr. Boe left the production, but I do know, as fact, that he was very open about the show being taxing on his voice, and he often called out citing vocal concerns.

Alfie took regular days off for vocal rest at Les Mis. It was published the days he would be out due to vocal rest and the public knew ahead of time. He was famous at Les Mis for often not being there.

However there were no scheduled days off for vocal rest that were noted for Neverland. He was gone at one point for a scheduled time off to sing in London. He was so open about needing vocal rest at Les Mis, there would be no reason not to be open again. I believe he's out with a back injury.
