Like how he manages to work in another shot at China Doll.

I think the first two seasons of True Blood are the best television ever made, That's not a joke, Alan Ball really understood his own tone and completely went for it for a long time, before completely imploding during season 3, but I think there's potential.

I enjoyed the first two seasons or so until it just became so ridiculous it was hard to handle. But Alan Ball can do some crazy good things...

Are they aware vampire musicals don't exactly have the best track record on Broadway?

If this is successful, can you imagine the onslaught on television shows that will be turned into musicals?

Namo has called me out on Twitter (again), so I'm going to quickly say that what I mean is that True Blood actually understands itself and what it is better than any TV show and then perfectly executes itself based on that. I'm talking about execution of its original goal, not an attempt to be high-art (which no TV show that I've seen has ever managed to be, with the exception of the Mildred Pierce miniseries)

Gee, it struck me that Our Miss Brooks, December Bride, I Married Joan, My Little Margie, and of course the greatest tv show ever, I Love Lucy, all understood perfectly well what they were, and did a perfect job in realizing it.

I remember really liking the music for this show, so if they carried that tone over to a musical it could definitely work for me. Certainly not the worst idea I've heard.

I think this could work actually, though not on Broadway, Vampire musicals, edgy musicals etc just can't find a place.

Critics simply cannot wrap their heads around the concept of vampire musicals. They are, to them, (pardon the pun) dead on arrival. Much like a Wildhorn musical, they do not have a chance in hell of succeeding.

One of the better ones was a concept album called "Possessed".It is long out of print.

I love the TV series in spite of the last several seasons (I actually had put off watching the final season until I saw this thread, so I'm watching it currently). I just don't think it's a great idea. The music is by the composer of the TV series, who has never written a musical. Ellen Foley was present at the alleged reading, which made me think possibly Jim Steinman would be working on it (he sure loves his vampires, despite not a lot of luck in the stage department). A post on Facebook had some casting ideas that I liked: Steven Pasquale as Bill, Jessie Mueller as Sookie and Billy Porter as Lafayette.

I wouldn't go that far, but I do think he showed, after Six Feet Under, how well he could work on genre. It did start to fall apart in season three and while his final seasons were a mess, the two seasons without him as show runner were awful.
