Brian Justin Crum (from the We Will Rock You Tour, Next to Normal, etc...) was on America's Got Talent tonight singing Somebody to Love by Queen. I thought he did a great job, but would have been cool if he mentioned he was in WWRY perhaps?
I think the producers are shaping his backstory as a "fat, bullied gay kid" and want to push that angle. I find it odd that he says he's a driver and doesn't reference any of the success he has had on Broadway or on stage. He's toured, had solo concerts at Joe's Pub, and performed with Brian May from Queen He has a successful career working and they are acting like he's a nobody. It's weird. He's well trained and the angle is he is just some schlub who sings like an angel.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
When I watched The Voice (season 1 was the only one I watched), the runner up was Dia Frampon, who had had success as a singer (with her sister in their band Meg & Dia, I can still recall their song "Cardigan Weather" but they never mentioned that if I recall correctly.
are you sure he's fat?? he seems pretty thin when i google him.

It didn't work for Kerry Ellis to talk about her theatre career.

It's a better "story" if America thinks they are voting for a nobody then someone that is already meeting with success.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Well she was on The Voice, you can't really trick the judges on that show with a sappy backstory (although her voice is fantastic so I don't get how she didn't get on the show). I'm sure she'll be fine though.

I saw Moyà as Oda Mae in Ghost on Broadway. I think it's a tad unfair to have true newbies competing with people who have significant stage experience.

I think we are missing something. AGT is supposed to give someone their big break. While Moya and Crum have stage experience they really are new to the people of America. It's also all about talent and having more experience weather is the stage or recording songs gives you talent.
Another stage performer on a reality talent tv contest- carly rose sonenclar(where is she? She would be great as Anna).

Jorge, I totally get your point. However, these folks are being critiqued on each performance. So some girl from the back woods of Kentucky's showmanship is up against a stage vet and the audience is being told he's a "driver." Still pretty disingenuous if you ask me. I also didn't think it was fair to put Moya against a cancer survivor. I mean, how is someone supposed to vote. I'd rather them tell you nothing.
That being said, I hope Crum wins. He was nice to me on Grindr.

Gypsy101, Where is your gaydar? He comes across very gay. I was also a fat gay kid (and bullied). In that clip, I was more focused on Mel B's tit popping out of her dress.
