College Auditions/Nina Monologue

So I've been working on the "I am a seagull" monologue from The Seagull for a pretty long time. I do not know a lot about overdone monologues other than the "I'm a bagel on a plateful of onion rolls..." type of monologue but I was told that Nina's monologue is severely overdone and should not be used for a college audition. I'm auditioning for the Mason Gross School of Arts. Do you think that the Nina monologue is an appropriate and not too overdone monologue to use?
