The worst... House Candidate Attributes Quote From Hamilton Musical To Real Life Alexander Hamilton In Bonkers WNYC Debate

"What's next to go, Fairway? Barney Greengrass? The politicians don't care. They care about the money they get from their friends in the banks. They don't care about our city. I do. That's why I'm running. The subways are third world. The rents are too damn high. This is the year millions of people are standing up. All the problems have gotten worse in Congress. We don't take this, we're New Yorkers. We're not afraid to speak up. We need new answers, a new plan, new energy. As Alexander Hamilton says, 'This is not a moment this is the movement. Foes oppose us we take an honest stand. We roll like Moses claiming our promised land.' Rise up, rise up and vote."

Yes, beyond fact that Rosenberg doesn't seem to understand what the federal government can do locally, that's an actual candidate for federal office ascribing a lyric from the character Alexander Hamilton to the actual Alexander Hamilton. The debate went on in basically the same fashion for another eighteen minutes. Rosenberg hand waves away the (correct) point that every issue he listed was a local issue with the counter that it's "the same all talk, no action of career politicians.

Another broadway (?) connection: Jackie Mason supported and did robo-calls for this candidate (who lost by a massive margin last night).

What awful writing.

Let's hope the real Hamilton spoke better than that.

Well, there is some actual Hamilton text used in the musical, but I guess it should be apparent that "we roll like Moses" is not included in that!

they clearly meant the character Alexander Hamilton, not the historical figure.

I agree. Since it was framed as what he "says" rather than what he said it was especially clear that he meant "A. Ham" and not the real Alexander Hamilton.

agreed. he did not think nor was he suggesting that he was quoting the historical figure. FWIW he lost to Nadler 90:10

Yeah it seems obvious he meant the character. I don't think anyone would be stupid enough To make that mistake.

I have enjoyed TURN: Washington Spys on AMC except it is not realistic. Although Colonel Alexander Hamilton is General Washingtons Right Hand Man, he has not rhymed at all this entire series!

If you actually listen to the entire debate/interview, he also mistakenly attributes a Benjamin Franklin quote to Albert Einstein so I would be comfortable suggesting that he, in fact, didn't realize it was from the musical.

The idiot kid is an Orthodox gay man (for which I have compassion) who recently converted from Republican to Democratic. He's also an idiot.

When Nadler read aloud soem 2014 Tweets that the kid made calling for Obama to be impeaches, the kid tried to press the Gay Button because the congressional district includes the UWS, Hell's Kitchen, Chelsea, the Village, and stretches down into parts of Brooklyn, but I don't think a single gay person in that district voted for him. Jerry Nadler has been terrific on gay issues for his over-20-year-long career.

"Jerry has no idea what it's like to be gay, a teenager and in the closet with the pressure to conform. When I was 19 and in the closet, I did what my family told me to do. I've grown and come to accept who I am, now who people say I should be. I am gay and I was a Democrat trapped in a Republican's body."

The kid was 29 when he Tweeted that.

But, despite the Hamilton reference, inadvertent or not, this thread belongs on the Off Topic Board.

I didn't realize creating a thread about a HAMILTON-related occurrence without any commentary except "The worst...," equates to having my headband in a twist. Interesting. Perhaps it's you who needs to loosen his/her panties unless you were just desperately looking to create some kind of conflict today?
