Anyone know when this is expected to be released? I heard from my friend that they were recording on the night he went, but I imagine they are planning to record many performances so they have options to choose from. I've had "Wait For Me" stuck in my head since I saw it a few weeks ago, and I don't love the concept album version. Would love to hear it again like they do it in the show.
I believe when it was announced they said they were recording two performances (6/28 and 6/29 I think). No idea when it will be released, but I am looking forward to it.
According to Twitter, there will be a 'Selections from...' EP released in a few days. Personally I'll probably wait and see what the full album looks like (hopefully it is still happening).
They just sent out an email to those that saw the show, we are getting 4 tracks Friday (the first, Why Do We Build the Wall is included and sounds wonderful). The full album is out in 2017.
It does sound great! And I'm happy about that. I wasn't sure how I would like a live album, but they did a great job. And I love "All I've Ever Known." It doesn't seem to be on the concept album, so maybe it was a new song for the musical? I think the concept album is an excellent recording, but I prefer the vocals on the cast album.
All I've Ever Known is a country-pop hit in the making. I can't wait for the full recording! I was sad to miss Hadestown when i was in town in June, it was sold out the one night i was free. I love the concept album and look forward to the new album.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
Can anyone confirm which cast members are on the recording? I know a few people left during the run and were replaced, but I'm not sure who was in it in June when this was recorded.
I saw Hadestown on July 31, which was I believe the last performance. Patrick Page had left by then, and Matthew Saldivar had taken over for Chris Sullivan as Hermes, according to a previous discussion here on BWW.
Someone on that thread said they thought that Shaina Taub had also left, but I don't know anything about that. I don't know if I saw her or not! I have to go home and hunt for the program.
So assuming that the recording was done on two days in late June, I would say that Page and Sullivan are on it, as well as the other original cast members. According to this New Yorker article, Taub was there for the recording.
While the EP has been available since last October, we will finally be getting the full live original cast album this October!
Here is the preliminary track listing; several songs from the show are missing including "Wedding Song", "Any Way The Wind Blows", "I Raise My Cup", "Epic I", but "Epic II" and "III" are included. We shall see!

The whole show was essentially sung-through and was longer than the 80-minute CD limit. lol. I doubt we'd get a deluxe or two disc version of the entire show, ala Comet. But I'd pay for it.

Amber Grey got robbed this year when she wasn't nominated this year for Great Comet. When this transfers I hope she gets her chance finally. One of my favorite shows in New York, the music is marvelous and Rachel Chavkin is the best.
