God, the number of interesting things that will be playing by the time I go to New York in April is just ridiculous. You've got

Hello, Dolly!

The Glass Menagerie

The Antipodes

Pacific Overtures

The Profane

The New Mamet

Samara

Vanity Fair

The Price

Rhinoceros

The Little Foxes

Gently Down the Stream

Daniel's Husband

Significant Other

and now probably War Paint. Too many options!

Hum a tune said: " Saw the show last night… Also interesting,  but not mentioned in the show, is the fact that earlier this month Revlon bought out Elizabeth Arden,  putting an intriguing twist on the end of the show.

It would have been more relevant if Rubenstein and bought out Arden. An even bigger power/ego driven cosmetic battle was between Revlon and Estee Lauder----working class man against society woman-imagine that sing-off !

Does anyone know where the Goodman stage door is?

There isn't a conventional stage door. Actors will most likely enter and exit from the lobby in the doors between the elevator and the security desk.

I'm not seeing it for a couple more weeks, but I'm already thrilled at these early reports!  My first show ever at the Goodman was The Visit with Chita and the best show I've seen there thus far was Light in the Piazza, so I feel like this is another Goodman milestone show for me.  And it's being immediately followed by a new production of Wonderful Town (a show I've never had the opportunity to see)!  Yay!

Can anyone recommend seating for this show? I enjoy sitting close but is the stage very tall/built up?

I just wanted to drop in and say how fricken excited I am about this show and hope that I will eventually see it.  I bought the book War Paint the second they said they were doing this musical... still haven't been able to read it though.

I was reading through these reactions at lunch today and was just gay-gasping like I never have before. Of course I'm dying to see these divas take the stage in a true star vehicle, but I also just completely adore Frankel and Korie's stunning and sensitive previous work. All around, I couldn't be looking forward to this more. So excited to hear it's going well!

They are selling t-shirts, Chinese fans, small compacts and the book War Paint as of the first preview.

Re:  stage door   Most actors enter and leave through the front lobby door.  I was told however that both Lupone and Ebersole will not be having a meet and greet or signing autographs.  Not sure if this will change.

Second preview, aka night of the flying props. There were several, but the most interesting one happened when Patti lost a bracelet but swooped it up so gracefully, it almost looked like part of the show.

I enjoyed the show, didn't feel it was overlong and that the tweaks it needs aren't too major.  I thought some of the vocal arrangements sounded awkward but may just need time for the cast to tighten up.

I would have liked the question they ask each other at the end about whether they really helped women or made things harder for them to have less of a rushed feeling.

There's no question this will land on Broadway this spring.

That question is too acedemic for me to believe those women would  have ever  asked it. It sounds like a writer wrote it - perhaps for a dissertation. ..

Just a few quick thoughts because the Uber drive is having a hard time finding my Gran's house...

  • As an entire piece, it's good shape. There's a few rough patches, but the positives greatly outnumber the negatives.
  • The length felt very good to me. Not rushed.
  • The intelligence and wit of Grey Gardens is there, but the overall feel to the music shows me that Frankel and Korie are not one trick ponies and can do a lot things with music.

I don't know if I'll be able to revisit the show before it closes, so I'm glad I saw it. More detailed notes tomorrow (I was jotting down things at intermissionlaugh).

I know it's a pointless discussion (though maybe one that could be serious should they ever need replacements, or someone was involved in an 'accident', say), but how would Bernadette fit in Christine Ebersole's role?

Seems like the ticket prices have gotten jacked up this weekend ... or maybe they've released some premium seats. 4th row orchestra on the side for a preview: $182. Front row mezzanine a bit to the side $125.

The only chance you have to see those two onstage singing together is if Sondheim personally asks them both. Otherwise, rest assured that they will both die without ever sharing a stage for a full blown musical. Ever.

This doesnt surprise me. It has been selling extremely well - makes a transfer that much more likely.

I'm seeing it later in the run in August. Great to hear it's getting such positive feedback. They really must have jacked up the prices, because I bought my tickets a few weeks ago and I was able to get front row Mezz for 90. That was without a discount code.

There's not much in terms of choreography.  The ensemble of younger "clerks" and four less young society women do most of it and it's pretty basic stuff.  One dance hall scene but again, nothing too thrilling.  Choreo is not the star(s) of this show.
