Trouble Deciding Last Show#1

Family will be spending weekend in NYC at the end of August. Easily decided the first two shows to see (School Of Rock & Kinky Boots) but having trouble with the last one due to some announced closings or limited runs (Shuffle Along , She Loves Me).  The choices for all of us (our daughters are 27 and 25) are "Beautiful, "Waitress" and "Book of Mormon". My wife and I have seen "Book Of Mormon" (loved it) but my daughters have not. Since I don't get to NYC often, try not to see things I have seen before on Broadway. My wife and I would probably like "Beautiful' but not totally sure if my daughters would appreciate it. They love 60's rock but Carol King is pretty mellow. I thought awhile ago "Waitress" would be the show to see but the Tony performance did not wow me, it was just OK. Just looking for some opinions.

Waitress would be a good choice, especially for your daughters, IMO.

You and the wife see Beautiful while your daughters see Mormon.

"You and the wife see Beautiful while your daughters see Mormon. "

Thanks. We normally like to see shows together but think we might split up this time.

I'm 29 and I loved Beautiful without ever having listened to Carol King music before (I knew some of the songs but didn't have a CD or anything. Also, this is about the early stages of her career, so many of the songs in the show are written by Carol but performed by other artists, so there is quite a bit of variety.

I also loved Waitress. I cannot get the music out of my head - I'm currently pretty obsessed. But I also thought the Tony Awards performance was perfection, so I'm a little concerned that you didn't love it. She Used To Be Mine is one of the best songs of the show - however it might just be that you didn't know the context of the song. I'd seen the show before the Tonys, and so I knew the place where it was coming from emotionally in the show.

My vote would be for Waitress over Beautiful, especially since you can easily see Beautiful on tour now that all the original cast has left anyway. Seeing Jessie in Waitress is worth the price of admission alone. At the end of the day both are good choices though.

Never saw BoM, only listened to the OBC and it wasn't my kinda humor, so I can't advice on that.

That's the problem sometimes with just seeing the Tony Award performance, you don't know the context so sometimes you don't appreciate it as much as if you see the whole show.  My vote was to see "Waitress" so I will see if I can get the others to agree. "Beautiful" already came to the city I live in but I was out of town when it was here.
