This is my first post on the West End board as I'm from the States and live lose enough to go to Broadway shows regularly. However, I've been to London several times, and each time I've made it a point to visit some West End shows. Most recently, my wife and I were at the Olympics in 2012, and we saw several shows as well. The ones that come to mind are Matilda, Top Hat and One Man, Two Guvnors.
In any event, I just heard that a new play is opening in NY for 16 weeks called The Encounter. Apparently it played in the West End, also a limited run, to reviews that I think you Brits would refer to as smashing. I think that it completely sold out its run. From what I understand, it's a one person play that is told not only visually but primarily through the use of sound transmitted to the audience through headphones at each seat. It supposedly plays with your mind. Has anyone heard of it other than from reviews, which I've read,,or better yet, seen it? It doesn't seem like I show I'd typically be tempted to see, but the concept looks so interesting and the reviews were so good that I'm very tempted to buy tickets as soon as they go on sale.
