Most every award was super predictable this year, but as happy as I am for Leslie Odom Jr. I feel terrible for Danny Burstein and the cast of Fiddler... They really needed Danny to win tonight, not to mention he's been nominated like 5 times and never won yet... I was also surprised Mark Strong didn't win AVFtB over Frank Langella who's won 3 previous times... Thoughts???
I felt like the awards were all well-deserved, though I was rooting for American Psycho to take Lighting Design over Hamilton. Hamilton's lights are definitely Tony-worthy though so no complaints here.
I never wanted anyone to win or not to win because they have previously won or not won before. But sometimes The Tony award does it. Not this year tho, I feel like every winner deserved the award tonight. Although I was rooting for Jane Krakowski. She amazed me in She Loves Me.
AGAIN once someone gets their 6 nomination without any wins they should get a tony award. If they were recognized THAT many times they should be THAT good!

I'm sure Danny got his punchcard stamped just in case they decide to allow him to redeem it for that complimentary award.
Just kidding. Had to say it before someone comes in and has a meltdown.
In all seriousness, I would have liked to see Shuffle Along take choreography and costumes.

While that's a fair point to make, I also think it's important to acknowledge that most men are not scrutinized to the extent that many leading ladies are around here. The diva worshippers are so quick to pit women against one another, tearing one down to build up the other. It's very much a two-sided coin.
I don't know why people think I'm joking about my 6 nominations suggestion. It makes sense.

The only thing I was really sad/surprised by was director of a play. Very much wanted Joe Mantello to win as The Humans was my favorite show, play or musical, of the season. I know he works all the time, but he's severely underrated and under appreciated in my book.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
It would have been nice to see Eclipsed and Shuffle Along walk away with something (or more than Costumes, in the case of Eclipsed). Hamilton gets a lot of praise for its diverse cast, and rightfully so, but these shows are fantastic works of specifically black art and are really excellent in their own right, and in a night when diversity was such a buzzword, it would have been nice to see them remembered.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I'm not sensing a ton of love here tonight for Fiddler, could that be a casualty of the Tonys come Labor Day? "Saigon" seems imminently ready to swoop in and reclaim the Broadway...
Kelli v Kristin was a way different battle than Leslie v Danny. I feel like Kristin was better than Kelli but neither gave historic performances. Leslie was so much better than Danny. The only viable way he could have won is either the split vote or sympathy. Does he really want that? Besides, I'm not sure if Leslie will have access to another Hamilton caliber role and Danny will be in more shows. It's not like he's 80. He will win one day. IMO, he wasn't even close to Odom's performance.

Agreed. Danny will win a Tony. This might have been Leslie's only chance. I hope not.

My sentiments exactly. Lighting and choreography in Hamilton were super, but the lighting in AP was absolutely mesmerizing, and Savion's choreography in SA was simply astounding. Jaw-dropping, in fact. IMO, these two awards got swept up in the wave that is Hamilton and I don't think there would have been any intention of excluding them when almost everyone else in the show got theirs. I think those were the only two awards I disagreed with.
