Not impressed with either her singing partners or her choice of songs.  Pure Imagination is a cheat-it's a movie song.  I'd rather she sung with Broadway performers - Lupone, Ball, Peters, Foster, McDonald, etc than movie stars who can carry a tune.

Missed opportunity to finally get a Midler/Streisand duet.  Could've done a Hello Dolly song.  That would be worth the price of the album.

Has anyone heard the "At the Ballet" first listen they just put out? Daisy and Anne sound nice but Babs singing that number is ridiculous to the point of high camp. I'm picturing her "Sheila" and just about pissing myself. Herein lies the problem with her Gypsy "casting". The woman has ZERO self awareness.

I'm not sure how I feel about At The Ballet. I hate the hijack of Maggie's final high belt. Babs should've let Anne finish it on her own.

How much do you want to bet that track six is a "Hamilton" number?

I've read that Track 5 with Hugh Jackman is from an unproduced version of SMILE.

That version of At The Ballet is awful, particularly Babs stealing the crescendo.

But more interesting to note: Daisy Ridley auditioning for the Gypsy movie.

She'd be such an interesting choice for Lousie. I really hope the film pans out.

the track was painful. I feel like this album may finally be proof that she simply can't sing Gypsy (unless those rumors of her having recorded the entire score in the 1980's is true). the setup was forced and awkward, and the only one I found to be believable was Anne Hathaway (I still just think she's fantastic). Daisy was just okay I thought, though I think she could work as Louise (it's doesn't take a vocalist like Laura Benanti). Barbra was blah and her stealing part of Maggie's big moment (but not the big note since I doubt she can sing that high E anymore) was distasteful. Plus, the only thing more questionable than that track listing is her singing partners. I've loved her for many years, but this album looks like it will be The Movie Album part 2.

These albums are just awful. Her collaborations are vampiric in that she tries to seek out people who will raise the profile of her album. The pairings are not based in any logical realm (like seeking out real Broadway stars). Its sad she has devolved into these terrible albums. I miss the days of her choosing gorgeous songs that suit her and just singing them without hype.

And don't get me started on that cover. Barbra Streisand Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway

She has been planning to record ANY MOMENT NOW since she learned about the passing of her friend Marvin Hamlisch  in 2012--

http://articles.latimes.com/2012/aug/10/entertainment/la-et-cm-barbra-streisand-marvin-hamlisch-20120810

"She also wanted to tell him how thrilled she was with “Any Moment Now,” a song Hamlisch had written with Carolyn Leigh for an early version of the 1986 musical, “Smile.” A friend of Streisand’s had recently sent her the tune.

“I was going to tell him that I am doing it on my next album -- a duets album that won’t be released for a while. I heard it and said this is going to be a great duet with somebody from the theater -- it’s brilliant.”  "

People have got to stop with the rumor that she 'recorded the score to GYPSY in the 1980s' in some private recording studio.  It's so ridiculous an idea I can't believe that people actually think that's true.

My guess the root of that rumor is that in his Sondheim Book, Craig Zadan mentions that Barbra tried a few tracks integrating "Rose's Turn"  and "Some People" for her original Broadway Album, but that it didn't work and she didn't include them on the finished recording.

In the same book. he quotes Streisand as saying that she was approached in the 1980s about playing Rose in a new version of GYPSY and that she read the script and 'just heard Ethel Merman all over again.'    Her desire to play the role has clearly changed over time, but given that statement, there is absolutely no reason to believe she would have recorded the entire score to GYPSY. "just in case" she wanted to play the role decades later.   It's as absurd as all the rumors stating that Streisand campaigned to play EVITA on film, when she's gone on record as saying she hated the show and had zero interest in it.

As for this new recording -- it's designed to cater to the same tastes that buy Susan Boyle and Josh Groban. Definitely not true Broadway fans.

Yes, that rumor that she "recorded the score" is so dumb. It's like someone just said it out of wishful thinking and it became true. And, how ridiclous would it look, her lip synching to tracks that were recorded 30 years ago?

That version of At the Ballet is simply atrocious. The reworked dialogue is painful. Barbra's voice, no longer like butter, sounds guttural at this point.

And, I'm sorry, but Daisy Ridley seems to have no grasp of what the song is about.

Terrible, terrible.
