I'm inclined to agree. Also, wasn't there already plans for a OBCR before previews even started?

This is fake and has zero verification with no actual connection to the creative or producing team. DO NOT DONATE TO THIS PAGE!!!!

This a well intentioned but misguided attempt by a fan that is not sanctioned by producers. Folks at the stage door said it might be a few weeks before answers about a recording emerge.

I would not donate to this. Any legit fundraising would come through AP Twitter or Facebook

My guess is there was a setback. Sheik has basically tweeted he's trying to make it happen.

$30k? I think that it would cost much more than $30k to get the cast back in one place. Plus the actual fees of recording and distribution and such.

The average cost of recording and releasing a CR is 500,000.00.

30k is 6% of that amount.

^^ I think you forgot to multiply by 100% ???

I really hope one happens, the Broadway version of the score is so much better than the London. But alas I knew when they released the London album it wasn't too likely.

Nothing in commercial theatre ever really makes sense, but if Alan Mencken (with probably 1,000X the money and clout of Duncan Sheik) couldn't get a US recording of Sister Act (which ran 500+ performances more than AP, and toured), it seems unlikely that AP would get one.

Wow!  I had no idea a cast recording was so expensive.

This actually explains why an American cast recording was never released for 'Mary Poppins' a few years back.  The only official album released was with the London cast.

The numbers you're reading are more of a spitball average based on typically larger productions. The smaller the production/score, the cheaper it will usually be. But yes, anywhere from $100k - $250k is a reasonable range.

I sense this recording could be significantly cheaper if they are singing to pre-recorded tracks.

But would licensing increase the cost?

I'm hoping beyond hope this comes through and would happily donate to a legitimate crowdfunding campaign. I just can't let Benjamin Walker's performance go.

Wait isn't this score entirely electronic? Might that make it cheaper than a score that requires actual instruments and musicians??

I'd love to donate to an official American Psycho recording campaign, but this isn't that.

I don't know what their arrangement is with the copyright holders of those two songs but yes, you can assume there would be an additional cost for using those songs. That being said, the cost would be nominal and not "make or break" the creation of an original cast recording even if the deal is higher than the federally-mandated statutory royalty rate of 9.1 cents.

There's a huge fee to acquire the rights to pre-recorded songs. I remember having a conversation with production of Rock of Ages about recording the show. I was told that because of cost to acquire these rights, it would be $700,000. So glad they did it!

It was mostly electronic, but there was a drummer, keyboard player, and two guitarists playing live each night. (I could be missing one, but that's all I remember.)

Duncan Sheik has tweeted "The producers and I are talking to the label that has the rights to OBCR and we'll possibly crowd fund as well ...More soon", so maybe this will officially happen after all.

I don't doubt your memory but that's not even possible, nor does it make any sense. I am highly skeptical of whoever you spoke to.

wasn't there something about when Glee was popular several artists decreased or waived their fees to record? I'm pretty sure if you record a cover (for profit) it can get pretty expensive depending on the song.
