Well, that didn't work.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

OK, this is a screenshot of a tweet of a photo of an interview that has no link.

Care to provide the link?

It's pretty clear she is using theatre and drama interchangeably. Nothing to get huffy over.

It could just be a lexicon slip up, like chips vs fries, but since when is JK Rowling the definitive stance on theatre? Its not a big deal.

I appoligise for any spelling mistakes. I may be on my mobile. Clumsy fingers and small little touchscreen keys don't mixx. I try to spellcheck, but I may miss something.

Haha hardly getting huffy just find it a bit of an odd thing to say.

JK rowling is very articulate and very careful what she says and writes, be it on twitter or in a rare interview which leads me to think she knew what she was saying..

And it's just over half way down the page

I think you're reading too much into her word choice.

Weren't the people who wrote Potted Potter going to get sued and she basically said it wasn't worth it and let them do it?

Im not 100% clear but it was about a taped performance I believe. She might not like it but she doesn't actively fight against it.

Why does it even matter what she thinks? There are millions of people on the earth who probably dislike, hate or even despise musical theatre. So what? I despise comic books. Does that mean anything?

Is it suddenly a persona attack on people who like musical if she, tactfully, says that she does not enjoy them?

I think that it's less about her not liking musicals and more about her not considering them "theater."

I could give a sh*t if JK Rowling liked musicals or not.

She might also mean more specifically a musical movie. I remember doing a double take when such a film was referred to simply as "a musical" rather than "a musical film"or "a film based on the musical adaptation of..." or other variants.

Like Into The Wood the movie referred to as simply "a musical"...when it's already a stage musical.

But also maybe she does mean stage musicals..shrug.

"movie musical" is the term I use for those.

I love musicals, theater, musical theater, AND JK Rowling... but really couldn't care less about this non-issue. (I hope my social media pages are never micro-analyzed like this. :-O )

I thought someone was joking when they said she left Hamilton at intermission when she was in NYC for the PEN gala last month - maybe it wasn't a joke!

She is defiantly not saying that Musicals are not theatre.  It's like if someone said "I hate the horror genre but love films."

Or, maybe she just doesn't like musicals.
