I was just checking out next year's season and I noticed that they said that there are two shows that have not been anounced yet.  Does anyone have any info. as to what those two shows might be?  I'm assuming that at least one will be a musical.

Also, I apologize if this has already been discussed elsewhere.

They called me two nights ago looking for a donation, and I told her that I would probably subscribe based on the last two shows. But she couldn't or wouldn't tell me.

Based on recent history, one should be a major revival of a musical on the scale of Anything Goes, 20th Century, and She Loves Me.

The first one is Holiday Inn. We are waiting for that as well.

There will always be the revival 3 years after the Midler one ends.

Now we know what will be taking up the American Airlines next spring. Here's holding out for a big musical at Studio 54...

Are they only doing two productions in the AA in the 16/17 season?  THE CHERRY ORCHARD and THE PRICE?  I can't find a closing date for THE CHERRY ORCHARD, but a 2/16/17 preview start date for THE PRICE doesn't leave much room in between for a third production.  The main 16/17 subscription page is saying that there is one more Broadway production to be announced, but I'd imagine that's the spring show for Studio 54.

Why didn't I think to look there.

Something could go into there for a 6-7 week run.  Maybe a rental?  Seems like a waste to not have the theater filled during that time frame.

They might just leave room for a 4-weeks extension or something.

There could be a little disappointment on the way. Roundabout knows as well as anyone that it is their major musical revivals that keep them in the public eye and sell subscriptions. I think that American Airlines, recently renovated and with an orchestra pit, is the theater  in which to place an Anything Goes or 20th Century.

Perhaps they are taking a year off from a big splashy musical. Actually She Loves Me does all right in Studio 54, although it doesn't bring as much baggage with it as the large musicals.

Well in recent years The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Cabaret have also played Studio 54 in addition to the current revival of She Loves Me, so I don't see how the American Airlines being booked equates to there being less of a chance that their unannounced show will be a musical revival.

Anything Goes actually played at the Stephen Sondheim (which is now rented to Beautiful), in recent years I think the only musicals that played at the American Airlines were On The 20th and Violet...

Holiday Inn is also going into Studio 54, so I don't see why another musical wouldn't go in there as well. I don't know based on what they decide what theaters to put each show in.

The Philadelphia Story, with Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller, is talked about.  If there is a short window, how about a transfer of Head of Passes?  Phyllicia Rashad was great, I don't see it sustaining more than an 8 week run. PR could get a Tony nomination, and Roundabout can throw a long overdue bone to diversity.  It doesn't have a star, but Skeleton Crew would deserve a transfer too.

Nothing "deserves" a transfer that's kind of a silly thing to say. Are you paying for it? Also Head of Passes is not exactly Roundabout's demographic.

The last open slot in Roundabout's schedule that's speculated about here is the spring show 2017 Studio 54, probably a February - July run, pretty much the same slot She Loves Me has this season and OTTC had last season (except at the American Airlines).

Except that She Loves Me was the only musical this season, and since they already have Holiday Inn scheduled for the fall, it *could* be the only musical of the 16/17 season, and the slot might instead be filled with a play.

I just looked up what they did in recent years, 2 musicals does happen, but it's not the norm..

2010/11: The People in the Picture (spring, Studio 54) & Anything Goes (spring, Stephen Sondheim)

2011/12: Anything Goes still playing (no new musical at all)

2012/13: Edwin Drood (fall, Studio 54)

2013/14: Cabaret (spring, Studio 54) & Violet (spring, American Airlines)

2014/15: OTTC (spring, American Airlines) & Cabaret still playing

2015/16: She Loves Me (spring, Studio 54)

2016/17: Holiday Inn (fall, Studio 54) & ??

They need a big seller in the slot. Musically always sell better than a play, but a play with LEGIT star power (like the aforementioned Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller together) would sell nicely as well.

Exactly, Harvey was a great seller for them a few years back.

I didn't say that no availability for the AA theater meant it unlikely that Roundabout will be producing another musical in the upcoming season. I only meant that the non-availability of the AA perhaps meant that there would be no large productions with big casts as in Anything Goes and 20th Century.

But I see that both the AA and the Sondheim have 3,000 seats more than the comfortable American Airlines venue, and under some circumstance Roundabout would rather put a musical in a theater with a greater seating capacity.
