I was in Whipped in Legally Blonde recently! Definitely start practicing early; jump-roping can be challenging in a different way than running or dancing is. Try jump-roping to "Whipped into Shape" to have a rhythm to follow, and then try to add in some singing. If you're also seeking alternative exercise, try something that will have jumping in it, like ballet. Break a leg!

If you're already in rehearsals, it's probably too late to get to where you want to be. Getting in shape takes time (read: months.) You can't just do some cardio for a few weeks and expect to be a musical theatre machine. Outside of developing a regular workout regimen, I would recommend practicing singing and doing your choreography (once you learn it) at the same time. Part of being able to sing and jump all over the place at the same time is building up your instrument and being able to support your breath and still allow the air to slowly release instead of what your body usually does when you are working out, which is to quickly inhale and immediately exhale.
