I know Lin said that he wanted to film it but I just can't imagine it being something the producers would allow. I wonder where the "sources" are from.
Still doesn't mean it would be filmed as a theatrical release. Perhaps they want the archive copy to have the original cast.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Why wouldn't the producers "allow" this? When I spoke to Lin about this last year, he said it's not something that wouldnt be released/screened until way down the line. But he wants a record of the show with the original cast, and this is his last chance to get that.
Due to its insane cultural obnoxiousness, HAMILTON will indeed be filmed properly. Yes, it's safe to assume Groff will return to preserve his performance and to have the original principal Broadway cast. Will this see the light of day any time soon? Absolutely not. They will hold this until they're damn ready to show it. They're just being smart to do this now instead of gathering the cast 5-10 years down the road to do what they can easily do right now. Smart producers.

Not sure why people think this won't be released to the general public. Plenty of theater is released on film for the public to see. And they would make even more money this way.
And its not like it would cut down on theater tickets bc seeing it on screen is no way the same experience as seeing it on film. But this would give people the opportunity who can't see it on stage.
Yeah, all the article says is "no plans yet, but LMM wants to do it someday."
Some people are watching a clip from Lin's upcoming (this Friday I think) appearance on the Rachael Ray show, where she asks him about Hamilton and then asks if he's going to make a movie next. He replies, "Oh, yes, I'm working on one right now" and proceeds to talk about the Disney movie Moana, which he's doing the music for. People are mishearing what he said and think he's saying he's filming Hamilton next, which isn't what he said, but maybe that's where people are getting the idea.

No one is saying it WONT be filmed for release....it just means THIS (if there is a this) might not be it.
And again, as others have stated, if it is for "us" then it is still likely years before it ever sees the light of day, regardless of when they film it.
