Thank You Ted Cruz!

Realizing that his campaign is toast Ted brilliantly plans to announce at 4 PM that he's selected Carly Fiorina as his running mate.  The move serves the following purposes: (1) it allows Cruz to send a clear message to his followers that there's no way in hell he wishes to be the Donald's running mate, (2) he picked up Fiorina before the Donald could, (3) it allows him to dominate the headlines ahead of the Indiana primary election stealing some of the Donald's thunder, and (4) it puts pressure on Trump to identify his running mate who will most likely be Christie.

Despite the obvious yuck factor of a Cruz-Fiorina ticket, it was a shrewd move on the part of Team Cruz.  Cruz's positioning himself for 2020 now when Hillary will likely be up for re-election.  I'm left wondering how much effective the gambit would have been right after Rubio dropped out.

Nothing says brilliant political strategy like picking the candidate that no one has ever elected to office, no matter how many times she's tried. Cruz, as repugnant as he is, at least managed to win an election once. Fiorina is has always been rejected by voters in every election in which she's been a candidate.

It's personal between Cruz and Trump.  Cruz is thumbing his nose at Trump by beating him to the punch.  Trust me, if Trumps picks Sarah Palin as his running mate the Trumpsters will go with the flow.  The party bosses are putting pressure on Trump to pick a female running mate to undo all the damage that Trump's done so far with women voters.

In an interview with CNN, the New York Republican congressman told Wolf Blitzer he agreed with the former House speaker, who called Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh” on Wednesday night.

“Maybe he gives Lucifer a bad name by comparing him to Ted Cruz,” King said. “Listen, what John Boehner was most concerned about was Ted Cruz perpetrated a fraud and a hoax when he brought about the shutdown of the government on some kind of a vague promise that he was gonna be able to take Obamacare out of the budget or to end Obamacare.”

King argued that Cruz knew his strategy would never work, but he did it anyway. He “shut down the government, cost the government money” and “served no purpose whatsoever other than to boost his name identification.”

Okay, I'll admit to my jaw hitting the floor when Cruz told a smart-alek kid in the crowd that he should talk to adults with respect.  As if he does.  He followed it up with, "When someone in my house talks like that, he gets a spanking." which of course, considering his constituency, got a big ovation.  Didn't hitting your kids go out with Joan Crawford?  It just gets more surreal by the moment.
