ray-andallthatjazz86 said: "The whole "I just don't trust her" thing that gets thrown around constantly when she comes up is not evidently a sexist reaction, but it goes back to our expectations that women should be nurturing, affable, and kind, and when they are not, then they must somehow be evil or conniving or whatnot. It's an unconscious level of misogyny that's harder to point out than explicit forms of sexism because it has little to do with the immediate reaction of hating women that we associate with words like "sexist.""

This is an excellent point, because Ezra Klein just did a video where he discussed "the gap" between how Hillary is perceived as a public figure (cold, calculating, ambitious) and how she is described by people who have worked with her (warm, loyal, devoted). Even though I personally don't think she comes across as cold and calculating as a public figure, and think she has every right to be outwardly ambitious, it's obvious that she's not coming across as a warm and maternal figure to most people.

As a personal example, we have a new Vice-Chancellor at the University I work for (in a New York-based office), who happens to be the first woman to be named Vice-Chancellor of this particular school. She is SUPER brilliant and quite lovely, but she is nowhere near as gregarious as her predecessor. I just said to a coworker that I don't think she (the new Vice-Chancellor) could ever be as outgoing as her predecessor, because she wouldn't be taken seriously as a leader if she was a woman who was that overly demonstrative.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

"Ah, so guilt by association isn't a real thing anymore? Cool! I'll remember that!  See: 2009 Boeing-Russia deal and 2010 VCS Mining-Haiti investigation for more"

I am tempted to ask "guilt by association" with what? Because there has, to date, been no "guilt" in either of those examples.

But please consider the question unasked, because I know it would lead only to a sort of water torture of backpedaling, logical fallacies, and downright nutcasery.

Liza's, as I said, it isn't that I can't understand why many have serious misgivings about HIllary Clinton.  As I said, I have my own share.  It's about the particular zest so many have in tearing her down in comparison to others in politics with equal, and at times as you said, guilt-by-association, problems.

An excellent summation of Headband as a personality on this board.

And of course there's misogyny at work against Clinton. There's misogyny at work against most women who rise to prominence in this country, though especially in politics- whether left or right. Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton may have next to nothing in common aside from their gender, but both saw their femininity  used as basis for attack.

Slightly OT, but reading through this thread and scrolling past certain people's posts....(I don't need to block anyone, My brain naturally see's certain posters usernames and I scroll directly down to the next post), I started having major flashbacks to reading the BWW political threads from '08 and '12.   Luckily we no longer have Jim Coyler, white supremacist., Mikey, and Sue Storm adding their two cents about the campagne to the thread. And Romantico and the rest of the board being baited by the racists. Now it's Carlos and the headache turned full blown tumor; with PJ taking over for Romantico....

My two cents: I've already lost all respect for anyone who will be voting for Trump. But even more so, I'm sickened by anyone who claims to not support Trump, but also refuses to get behind Clinton and vote for her come November. I have little respect for those who don't vote in general (who also tend to be the most vocal complaining about the outcome) but this election is not the time to sit out and not vote; vote third party; or Vote Trump because of your hatred for Hillary Clinton. Who will be a fantastic President and the most qualified person to ever be sworn into office.

Vote Democratic- Vote for a Democratic President. Vote for Democratic Senators and members of the House. Vote for the Supreme Court and the future of this country and the world. Make your voice heard and proving your point/ protest/ whatever by voting third party in down ticket local elections. Start there- and don't sit quiet for 4 years and then all of a sudden complain about the rigged system, DC establishment, and two party system.

But for this election.... The most important in all of our lives (I wasn't alive when Goldwater was a nominee)....... get off your fvcking high horse, stop showing your privilege and self righteousness, and vote Hillary Clinton as our next President. If you don't—you're a fvcking idiot.

You know, I hate Trump (and, frankly, his supporters) enough that it's conceivable I could change my mind and vote for Clinton (whom I don't hate) rather than Johnson (my first choice). Maryland is certain to be one of Clinton's best states, so there won't be any marginal effect either way. But over-the-top posts like drewboy's, and PJ's earlier personal attacks on me, aren't exactly pushing me in that direction.

Can't we be nice to each other during this stressful period in all of our lives?

Yes, finally doing the right thing.  As an unabashed Bernie supporter I was hoping for more involvement, maybe he needed a break, but this has been too long coming.

Maddow is teasing a Newsweek article running tomorrow, alleging Trump illegally did business in Cuba in the late 90s.

It's creepy about the Clinton hate.  As many of you have written, where it comes from is darker than many of us wish to believe, including women.  I never hated her, but I admit I lost respect for her when she didn't leave her husband.

Gary Johnson continues to prove that he's almost as ignorant as Trump. Tonight he was unable to name a single world leader when asked by Chris Matthews. How anyone could think voting for him was a good idea is beyond me. Weld looks horrified in the video.

Let me get this out of the way first: I don't think Johnson is a particularly smart guy, and I'm not all "rah-rah" about him.

However, what you wrote is inaccurate. He was asked to name a world leader he respects. Truth be told, I'd have to take an awkward moment or two to think about that one, and I'm not sure what I'd come up with.

In your defense, kdogg, you aren't running for the highest office in America; someone who is (I strongly believe) really ought to be prepared for questions like that. He couldn't even remember the name of the "former President of Mexico" (I assume he meant Calderon, but who knows why, maybe it was Fox).

But then, it's not surprising; Libertarians also believe that economies can magically take care of themselves, with no oversight.
