This thread is like a fable for overconfidence. I mean... "The Coming Republican Apocalypse..." HA!
It has taken 24 years, but it looks like someone has finally executed Pat Buchanan's strategy.

You, sir, are very wise...indeed.
Lots of people posting that they shouldn't have rigged it for Hillary when Bernie was really winning. I wonder how much truth there really is with all that, if it's actually true boy there are some people really pissed off at that decision right now.

Of course they made a mistake. The polls made it clear that Bernie stood a better chance of winning, and there are strong theoretical/causal reasons why this is so. The polls showed during the primaries that Hillary might lose to Trump. But no one took it seriously.

It's the chance we took. There are no guarantees in elections. What's done is done. We deal with it and move on like adults, not like prepubescent kids having a tantrum because mommy won't let us grab a candy bar at the checkout counter.
I am so upset for the future of America and the world.
Millions and millions of white people, kept their mouths shut, went into the voting booth, looked over their shoulders and voted for trump.
Hate lives silently and grows.
Even if HRC wins I am stunned and in tears; the local ER is having HBP/panic attacks spiking.
God help Australia---forget America, you've bought this upon yourself, but this will be horrendous for the Australian economy if it all plays out the way it's going.
Twill be very interesting to see how 'he' goes about asking for support from Australian troops when and where needed---all over the world !
My dad works in the financial world and he's freaking. He might not freaking out as much as others(he's betting on the market to go down), but the market really will suffer from this.

Will she concede or fight it out in recounts?
Anger & Fear won in the USA today. I don't think I've ever been more grateful my grand parents got to Ellis Island and went North.
Good night & G*d Bless.
It's good...people are sick of the crap of Obama and Hillary... it is time for change and Trump is not perfect, but he is our best choice now and I believe he will do well for America and has America's best interest at heart. I'm proud.

Yes, and of voting rights, gay rights, women rights, immigration. Are you white and straight by any chance? If not, really sorry for you.

This says what the news media won't say. We live in a very bigoted and sexist country and it would not have mattered who the Democrat was. Trump tapped that vein from the beginning and that's why we will spend the next 4 years in fear. We all knew it but it's no longer undeniable.
"
They didn't do it with chains, or rope, they didn't use hoses or attack dogs...they just stayed silent; and then they voted.
I don't drink or take drugs but I'm going to medicate myself; hopefully when I wake up it will be to better news.

As someone who has finally started speaking up for themself about my sexuality and a female, I totally disagree. His VP supports gay conversion therapy. So, he does not have my interest at heart. Not to mention so many other things.

Enough woe is me!
Where does it go from here? What can be done? Start organizing!
Save The GD Country while you still have one!
This is what comes out of a horrible two party system with extremes on both sides. We get two horrible candidates and this is the result. Going to be interesting to say the least.
American Horror Story. Very dark, sad day for America and the whole world. Brexit made 100 times worse.
20 years ago I won a scholarship as an exchange student in a New England high school where, coming from a small little village, for the first time I felt it didn't matter what gender or race I was. Yes, this was a liberal school. I, as the other foreign students back then, were welcomed and accepted by our American host families and schools like we've never experienced before elsewhere. I never had the feeling that my US hosts and friends felt like we would be taking something away from them, quite the contrary. Over the course of the last twenty years with all the ups and downs of American politics I've always reminded myself of how extrordinary that was, and despite all the ambivalent turns taken since then (which, of course, happend and are happening everywhere around the globe), this openness and friendlienss was a distinct American quality to me. This, in a very very small nutshell, was something that to me made "America great", not whatever hateful propaganda this Trump-character is blaring out.
So what is happening now, is beyond my understanding and I am deeply saddened that America has gone down this road. I hope that everybody who is not happy with this outcome will not resignate but stand up against whatever racist, sexist and discriminating politics are about to come.
