His remarks reach the height of absurdity.

The thing is the speaker is only 47 years old and a licensed attorney. I grew up in one of the most regressive parts of the state. One of the reasons that I'm not a person of faith is the intransigent conflation of Christian dogma with politics back there. And as a person of color, the word "straight" was often replaced by another adjective during my parents and my youth. The speaker is a former acolyte of the late US Senator from NC Jesse Helms who exemplified bigotry on steroids.

With NC's governor up for reelection, plus the focus on this legislation, a lot of eyes will be on NC in November. Also, their GOP senator is also up for reelection.
