Over the past few days, I re-read Torch Song Trilogy and Safe Sex and was reminded what a great playwright Harvey Fierstein is. I was curious to know what other peoples opinions are on his work? Of course, he has a great deal of awards but I've sometimes heard people say his work is too similar and predictable. I for one thoroughly enjoy his work. Is there any word on what his next project will be?

I first remember him from the movies Mrs Doubtfire and Independence Day. His distinctive voice and comedic timing stuck with me.

I don't know much of is work outside of Torch Song Trilogy - which is hands down my favorite play. He's a phenomenal performer but I've heard plenty of criticism when it comes to his recent works. He did rewrites for The Wiz Live!, yes? I remember a few members of this board having issues with that.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

Torch Song Trilogy was good. So was the book to La Cage aux Folles. It's been downhill ever since, as he keeps repeating the same ideas to ever-diminishing returns.

He survived the mess called Legs Diamond. He should get an award for that.

I think his newest project is adapting Hairspray for the live telecast.  I like Torch Song but think his book for La Cage pandered to tourist who might be offended by as much as one smooch betwen two men.  It couldn't touch the authenticity or heart of the original play or movie.

This thread made me finally watch the film Torch Song Trilogy, and I absolutely loved it. A fantastic film.

While the movie was great, it hold nothing to seeing it on stage .

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

will we ever see a Broadway revival do you think? or is the show past it's time? Who could play Arnold / Virginia?

It could come across as a little dated , but in a perfect world Nathan Lane could and would have a ball with it, not saying he might be right. But I would pay Hamilton prices to see it.
