This definitely came down from the top. Disney/ABC obviously has plans for their morning block and this is a strategy.  I thought Rippa had some serious power, but oy what a low blow from the network.

Ripa was photographed this morning leaving her home holding a copy of Malcom Gladwell's book David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants.

She's just digging her own hole now.

She is using an earth mover at this point. Feel sorry for the workers on the shows. I wonder if any of them will start to bail soon

It's very much a low blow. I don't believe the stories that say she's not going back to the show until Strahan leaves.

It's a pretty messed up situation. ABC could have avoided all of this by just letting her know in advance. That would have been the correct thing to do. The show is LIVE! with Kelly and Michael not LIVE! with Michael, and this decision affects her because she's losing a partner.

She's human and she has a right to feel the way that she does. It shows a lack of loyalty not only on ABC's part but on Strahan's part as well. She was one of his biggest champions when he joined the show, she had his back and then he goes ahead and stabs her in hers.

It's gotta sting. It's about loyalty and this move was extremely unprofessional.

She's probably worried that this is only the beginning of some major changes and she probably feels that trust - one of the most if not THE most important part of any relationship just went out the window.

I have a few thoughts...

1. I've got quite a few friends who have found themselves in the halls of "LIVE!" and have sang nothing but the praises one of Mrs.Ripa. That what you see on screen is what you get off. Someone who is a ball of fun, kind to everyone and an impressively hard worker.

2. From my understanding from years ago, ABC execs weren't thrilled with him and Ripa encouraged them to put him in the chair. If I fought to get you a job (that increased your profile resulting in more jobs) and you don't have the class to tell me earlier you're leaving I'd be pissed too.

3. I don't believe any of this garbage in the press. I think she was probably shocked and upset but her not coming back, wanting out, etc. is ridiculous.

Disney is to blame most. They poach own show,  Imagine if Michael wanted to go to Today or FoxandFriends. They would have made him fulfill his contract, and SUE him, the other show, the other network and the other production house

If i were in her stilletos I would feel the same way.  She has been with show for over 10 year, and championed Michael. They were partners on the show, almost like being in a Band. I read that John hated Paul for the way he just blindsided them when he sent a letter to them about leaving the group and released to press.

I do not blame Michael for trying to better himself, good for him.  But for all they have been thru together he should have at least kept her in loop.

Dottie, I like both of them, also.    That's the shame in all of this.

I have no idea how or when this all really went down, what was happening behind the scenes or what was said in private meetings.  We don't know what Strahan was asked to say or not say.  Contract negotiations are tricky, and confidential, conversations.

I hope Kelly gets what she wants from all of this.  I hope this hasn't hurt her chances to negotiate in any way.   I also wish Strahan the best.  He's a very engaging personality, and I'll enjoy following him in his career.

I think he'll be wonderful on GMA. It's rare that a football player becomes such a charismatic broadcast star.

I like Strahan very much and I wish him all the best in all his endeavors. I don't agree with how this was handled and I feel bad for Ripa because she is a genuinely nice person.

But as the old adage "That's show biz, folks!"

He seems really genuine, it will be interesting to find out how this all went down.

I just read this on the CNN Money site and it's interesting in that ABC or Michael Strahan or both have not been honest or upfront with Ripa. This isn't the first time this is happened and it's apparently the straw that broke the camel's back.

That's partly what this week's dust-up is all about. Strahan has been part-time on "GMA" for the past two years -- something that Ripa resisted at the time.

"Ripa was worried it would distract him from 'Live' but was reassured it would only be a temporary position," The New York Times reported on Thursday.

But it was permanent, and now it is becoming full-time.

This take is how I feel...

Ripa didn’t cry. She didn’t create a scene or publicly spill the beans. She simply exercised her right to a bit of me-time and made a statement. And that statement is: “I’ve netted you a profit of $30 million a year. You don’t get to treat me like the intern. This is no ordinary slight. Even in a business as cutthroat as TV, this just smells.

When Regis left the show in 2011, Ripa was informed of the change just 20 minutes before, a shocking turn that she handled with good grace. But you’d think after five years at the helm, she’d be given more of a heads-up.

TV producers have never been known for their communication skills, but to slight Ripa twice in the same way and to leave her publicly exposed like this is a diss too far.

What was ABC thinking? You can just imagine the suits in the back room working out how to break the news to Kelly. “She’s going to be mad whenever she finds out, so let’s just wait till the last minute. She’ll be a good girl and get on with it.” They got that wrong.

I don't watch the Kelly and Michael show but I do like Kelly, going back to 1991 when she joined All My Children as a goth teenager. Good actor!

Same here, Jane!  I do DVR it every day, though.  I don't usually like the show when she's not there.  Depending on who the guests are determines if I watch it then.  Michael Strahan Leaving

You know it's bad when Oprah AND Regis both say she deserved better. Now "reports" are saying they won't host again together. Interested to see the Tuesday return...you blindside me and expect me to walk out holding your hand? Negative.

Find it hard to believe these two will show up together again.

At this point, why even bring Michael back? Take some time and start the guest co-host carousel.

I blame Michael a little but most of blame goes to Disney. They shot selves in foot and damaged him in eyes of alot of people , especially women.  When he first came a lot of people were skeptical but he (with her help) won most over.  Now it looks like Disney and Michael if not plotted against her, certainly around her and treated her like intern when she is the biggest reason for that shows success.  He may never fully recover, at least with women. Especially as usjr says, when Regis and Oprah are siding with her.

Oh for crying out loud - what actual information do you have?

There are reports.  People are saying.  Treated her like an INTERN?  PLOTTED against her?

That's ridiculous.

Obviously, something wasn't handled the way Kelly wanted.  But, unless someone who was actually in the room when all of the conversations happened wants to give a full report, we can't make such claims.

I'm sorry she's hurt.  She doesn't deserve to be hurt.  I'm sorry Strahan's name is being dragged through the mud.  He doesn't deserve to be dragged through the mud.  I'm sorry contract negotiations don't always turn out the way we wish they would.

He'll recover.  She'll recover.  ABC/Disney will recover.  But, everyone needs to be professional about it.

Oh come on. Of course we were not there. If that is the standard, being there, well nothing would ever get discussed about anything unless you were there. From Kelly and MS, to Hamilton, to Today and Ann Curry, to Rosie and Whoopee to Syria, the White House, Trump etc

Here are just some reputable sources reporting this in detail....
