With the papers full of ENOs money issues you would expect them to make some from the merchandise stall for Sunset yet the idiots close this at the interval meaning the line of people waiting by it at the show end were just told to comeback another day and dismissed  - as I went to the 11th show they should have now worked out a lot of people buy things on the high of seeing a show or don't want the items damaged in the normal cramped seating - they must have had people asking after each show yet they are too stuck up to get one of the many staff to man the till and make some money. Obviously being public funded money means maximizing revenue is not a issue for them.

For info the limited merchandise was a tote bag with the sunset logo - £20 a sunset mug £10 the vocal score selection £20 I think and a print of the original designs of several of Glenn close costumes by Anthony Powell at £10 for print £40 for signed and £50 for signed and framed - programme £5 - interval ice creams were actually good value at £3.

No show poster or show brochure on sale - the things they would have sold a couple of hundred each show

Souvenir brochures are very costly and it would be tricky to cover costs across the short run

Agree with the show brochure.

the programme which is £5, for which you get a cheaply produced paper one.

We wanted a poster so settled on the signed, framed costume print. Love the image but the frame has to go!

The last night and stocks were down to the programme - and the £60 signed and framed print  or the £10 print only. One nice addition was the costume design parade of figures of Norma from the print has been put onto a mug which does look very stylish and a bit different to the normal logo mug - £10. The stall was only selling ice creams at interval so guess all stock cleared but a very wasted money making chance squandered

I used to work for a merch company here in NYC and this seems so strange. I rarely sold anything during walk in even on big hit shows. People would often come look at the merch and ask if I was open afterwards. I gave my sales line about "of course, but it tends to be more crowded then, but we'll stay open!" We did around 75% of business at walk out where people are leaving the show on a high and thinking "oh, maybe I should get a mug or something!"

I can't fathom why the merch company (or the ENO itself if it's in charge of it) wouldn't want to pay the merch seller a bit more money to keep them there through the interval and post show? I don't know if they earn a lot more, but here I'd always joke that I at least payed my salary that night if I sold a couple of things. I imagine an audience that size you'd more than pay the 20-40 pounds you're paying the merch seller.
