What an illuminating, heartbreaking and mysteriously inspiring doc on HBO. The clips excerpted, featuring glib moments between Cooper and his mother, out of context don't do the film justice.  It's one of the fullest portraits of Gloria Vanderbilt we've seen, and the well of sadness from accumulated losses -- many connected to her good and horribly bad decisions -- is profound.  Yet though questions emerge that cannot be answered (estranged family members, including Cooper siblings) she's painfully honest and owns her regrets.  A dimensional portrait of someone I frankly never think about. Cooper, sometimes difficult to warm to, emerges as collateral damage in a lifetime of abandonment and death, albeit a man who nevertheless perseveres very much like his mother.  Unmissable.  Kudso to filmmaker Liz Garbus
