Maybe  the moderators are bitter that they aren't in a relationship.

I find it pretty rude for it to disappear with no explanation, particularly given I think it's an important issue that many of us could benefit from the discussion of.

Someone asked this same thing a week or so ago. When a thread reaches the end of a 25 page cycle, your post sits in a kind of BWW limbo, until someone makes another post in that thread. So if your post is #50, #75, or #100 an so on, it sits there until #51, #76 or #101 comes along.

I surely don't know why this happens either, so it can be frustrating at times. If you really want something posted immediately, ask someone you know to post something or just do it yourself. I hope this helps, it's a pain in the butt but not the biggest problem to BWW I guess. Where did my post go?

It was a brand new thread.  I think they deleted it because of the subject matter.

Thank you ArtMan. I didn't know that from the start of things. In that case I'm sure it was deleted by mods and I agree with you. Where did my post go?

So to everyone, "play nice"

I still would like to hear from someone at BWW about this. For those that didn't see the topic, it invited discussion about whether there were challenges in the gay community that made it difficult for us to achieve long-term relationships, and invited people to potentially provide suggestions of how we might overcome this. Seems like a completely legitimate conversation topic on an off-topic board to me.

I AM NOT A MOD, NOR AM I AUTHORIZED TO SPEAK FOR BWW.COM IN ANY WAY.

But I have been a member of a True Crime board for almost 20 years and have seen these issues ebb and flow there as well as here. A few thoughts:

1. When a moderator explains a deletion, it only begins an even longer conversation that serves to take up time the mod may not have.

2. Explaining a deletion may only serve to reemphasize the original violation of the TOS. E.g., if I call you a c*** and my post is deleted, how does the mod explain the deletion of the post without basically repeating my slur? Even just explaining that a personal slur was deleted, without being specific, serves the purpose of inviting each of us to imagine the worst possible disparagement.

3. Posts that quote offending posts are often deleted; mods don't necessarily have time to remove the offending quote and if they did, the remaining post might no longer make sense..

4. Unoffensive posts are often deleted along with offensive ones because the benign posts lose their meaning when the context is changed.

5. Re 3 and 4: To do otherwise would require a mod to literally rewrite an entire thread, post by post, adding context to preserve the meaning of each comment after the deletions were gone.

6. An entire thread may be deleted when it becomes obvious that the subject matter is so incendiary that we posters just can't discuss it civilly. This is not to say the threat-starter is to blame; but it doesn't hurt to remember that my post may have been deleted because of the responses that came after, not because I did anything wrong in the first place. (Here again, explaining why is an invitation to start the whole conversation over.)

Obviously, the moderating is a little tighter right now and Rob has graciously explained why. My personal hope is that the reins will be relaxed a little after a while, but ultimately that isn't my call. I do think we should all remember that moderating an internet forum is an art not a science. A period of adjustment is to be expected.

Yes, tbh I did not see any replies to the thread, so I don't know if it became unruly. I'd be surprised if it did, which is what is so puzzling. But alas.

qolbinau, I didn't see any replies either. My post above is based on observations I've made in the past, here and elsewhere.

I honestly don't know what the issue was here, but I doubt I could speculate without getting this thread deleted as well.

Thank you GavestonPS for your intelligent reasons for deletion.

A couple of mine disappeared recently and I wrote to the mods.---no reply-- but your explanation somewhat soothes me. It's like having something taken away from you with no explanantion.

Still--I will and have survived worse.

You're welcome, SL. I've lost some posts the same way.

It helps me to think of myself as a guest here (and at any forum). Of course, the host or hostess has the right to decide certain topics are off-limits, or certain remarks cross the line of decorum. i don't have to agree or pursue the matter further.
