I think once AMC said THE WALKING DEAD was out if this thing passed, it was the end of it.

No doubt. The business boycott is definitely what swayed him.

I'm noticing a trend with corporations boycotting states and other organizations. First Fifa having major companies to threaten to back out, North Carolina and the nba and now Georgia with the film industry.

Yay to my state!

I wish Governor Deal would have come to this decision about basic equality in his state before Disney/Marvel, The Walking Dead, and other big, public revenues for Georgia gave their two cents by threatening their two cents, but that would be asking a lot of that strange, wibbly-wobbly man.

Oh, and what happened here?? I feel like I'm typing this in Microsoft Word!

Jordan!

I feel like Bill Paxton in Twister. I'm probably not actually back, and will say that I'm not back, but we'll see. I just genuinely thought of BWW when I saw the headlines today.

I have to get something out of the way....

I'm glad companies in Georgia did this, but this is exactly what Bernie Sanders doesn't want to happen. He doesn't want companies to have enough power to be able to control legislation which is what happened here. He claims that corporations are all bad but they set benchmarks for progression like this where the people of the state wouldn't do anything.

This is not exactly what Bernie Sanders does not want to happen.

This is businesses and corporations refusing to conduct business in a state. Sanders takes issues with politicians accepting money from businesses and corporations and thus becoming beholden to them.

That is a strategy companies use to get what they want. That how big companies get tax breaks is by saying they'll go somewhere else if they don't get what they want.

What Bernie talks about is companies using financial incentives or threats to get what they want for themselves. Buying bills and laws and opportunities that benefit themselves. Governor Deal vetoing this bill does not help Disney. Instead, this is Disney just commenting on the issue and saying they will put their money where their mouth is.

If anything, Disney and others pulling out of Georgia is a detriment to them, since they film here for tax purposes and not because they just love 100 degree humid heat in the summertime.

It's similar to when athletes threatened to boycott Sochi. They knew they would miss out on an Olympics, but they had to put their money where there mouth is in their own way.

We need to get a ninth justice seated and race one of these laws up to the SCOTUS.  Given Kennedy's record, we could probably get a 5/3 out of this court.

Agree w/ ^^^

This is not the time for a 4-4 split court.

Bigots, business owners, corporate board members, lobbyists, and trust fund babies are voters too!

I think that having the 5 or 6 northern States banning any conventions or business in the states probably added to the decision.

Of course The Walking Dead, Coca Cola, Disney, and even Bravo and Lifetime shoot several shows there. i think any state that tries this again should think twice.

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has signed the law -- and because MS has no industry, no sports and no entertainment, it will probably stand. There are no economic leaders to fight against it, and we all know that these things only go away when a financial strain is placed.

In the immortal words of Nina Simone: "Everybody knows about Mississippi goddam!"
