Gay Getaways From NYC#1

So, I've recently been overcome with wanderlust and want to take a weekend trip somewhere near NYC. I've done Boston and DC. But was thinking something gay friendly. It's not really the season for Fire Island or Provincetown, but curious if there were any other places that were fun/gay friendly? Any gay resorts or anything?

Bucks County, Pa. (specifically New Hope) is great. Very gay friendly and a short drive (90-ish minutes) from NYC. It's more of a year-round town than some of the more seasonal places like P-town or FIP. I know a lot of New Yorkers who weekend there.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

AC beat me to it.  Also, I haven't been, but Asbury Park might be worth considering.

Drove through New Hope in the fall of 2011. It was packed. Bumper to bumper traffic and packed sidewalks. Lots of strollers. Years ago it was a nice quiet place to getaway. They had a few gay bars, The Cartwheel and The Raven. The Raven is still there. It has a pool and they do a nice brunch. You can also stay there. It is about 10 minites outside the main town. Still beautiful up there though and they have a great playhouse.

Oh nice! That sounds great. I'd need to rent a car then? That'd work. Never traveled by myself like that but sounds fun and adult!

The Raven is also the new home to the RRazz Room, a longtime cabaret space that features some of the same performers who play at 54 Below, Birdland and the Metropolitan Room.

I live just down the road.  The New Hope Lodge is across the street  and has 28 cabin style rooms, a pool and a bar -- more affordable than the Raven which only has a handful of rooms, but a pool, the bar, the RRazz room and a great restaurant.  http://theravennewhope.com/

Et al, lah ... Poof! Cheyenne Jackson ordered me a drink at Standing Ovations 2 waayyyyyy before Girly hung out with him in the dressing room and he tickled D2.

I think a bus goes there but I would suggest a car as the drive around the area is nIce. Some cool river rest stops on back roads and shops to stop off at. We were doing a day drive in the area to see the changing leaves.

The TransBridge bus line does go from NYC to New Hope.  But, you do want a car.  Driving up and down the river is spectacular.  I actually enjoy the shops and restaurants in Lambertville, NJ more than New Hope.  It's just across the river.

PS: The photo in my profile is of the canal that runs through New Hope.

Montreal is really great if you don't mind the 6 hour drive. Lots to do and see there and so welcoming.

Philadelphia is also fantastic.  If you stay near the old city party most gay stuff is walkable.

Asbury Park is ok... the hotels there are kinda meh and the pools aren't open in the winter.  I would suggest staying at a nearby chain hotel and ubering to the night/brunch life.

Never been, but there is a place called Gargoyle House in Vermont that might be interesting.

Lastly, we are really lucky to be so close to 3 major airports.  You can find some really great deals to gay-friendly resorts in places like Cancun (post Spring break season) for a few days and get everything included.

That's true. Was looking and Dallas is like $150 round trip. That's crazy.

I second Montreal if you never been.  From NYC, the bus/train has to be pretty reasonable.  Dallas is okay.  I went once for a gay softball tournament when i was living in Atlanta.  We stayed with a friend's friend who had a car.   From what I remember you would have to rent a car.  Especially if you want to see the Southfork Ranch like I had to.  Philadelphia is also a great option.  I visited once, but only for a one day overnight trip from Washington DC.  Alot of history and things to see all in a compact area.  If i remember correctly, most of the tourist sites were free.

There are many fun guest houses in Fort Lauderdale. Flights are not that long and are not very expensive.

You can get into a lot of trouble in Fort Lauderdale.

I recommend it highly.

If you go to Fort Lauderdale rent a bike for the days and cab it in the evenings. Be sure and stop by The Slammer.
