Grew up there.  It's a state of extremes and extremists.  Also the poster child for gerrymandering on steroids.

 

Folks there love themselves some basketball so the more progressive residents have already picked up a powerful ally...the NBA.

Governor McCrory was on Meet The Press w/ Chuck Todd earlier.  He's a typical telegenic & silver-tongued GOP mouthpiece.  Dude has mastered GOP talking points and in another political lifetime was a moderate.  He's also the kind of candidate who could give Hillary or Bernie fits in the 2020 general election debates whenever one of them is up for re-election hopefully.  I don't claim the gift of prophesy but if he wins re-election as NC governor, look out!

North Carolina is north of South Carolina.  Are we adhering to the 19th century Civil War stereotype or the more commonly known divisions that include all the continental states?  Because then you'd have to say something like North is not New England or Midwest or Pacific Norhwest or Southwest, though in the case of North Carolina, its politics are not unlike other states in other US regions.

I thought I couldn't hate a person more than I already do but after Ted Cruz' hateful hateful remarks this morning, well, where is a runaway train when you need one?

I took a short-hop flight down to eastern NC last week to sync up with my dad before we flew out to Phoenix.  The amount of support down there for the original iteration of the law was mind-blowing.  Predictably, the evangelicals have drawn a line in the sand and adopted an intractable position against the meddling of outsiders with "New York values".  The economy be damned.

NC's restroom has become a central election issue.  Governor McCrory simply overplayed his hand.  The gambit has raised his profile nationally but at some expense to the state.  I sense that Trump or Cruz will carry NC in Nov but have no idea about down ticket races.

ETA: The rendezvous with my dad and the aftermath of the NC law have inspired me to resume writing a play that I abandoned years ago.
