That's a funny clip. Of course it was just for fun but it really shows how great Luke Evans is, he is a very natural singer and makes the singing immediately work and feel natural on screen. Jackman immediately goes into this "musical parody" mode and puts on this voice and vibrates for too long on the wrong syllables. Very unnatural.
The importance of great natural singers is very underestimated, especially in musical on film. This clip makes me excited for the BATB film.

Huh, I never knew you felt this way about Hugh Jackman's singing voice.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
It's just refreshing to see side by side what works and what does not. It really makes or breaks the material and the way the singing feels, out of place or spot on. Completely intergrated with the acting or completely separated from the acting.
I hope Luke Evans puts more effort into the role on screen than that clip. Sure his voice is good but there's not much characterisation or presence there so I'm not sure what you're getting so excited over. It was just done for a laugh.
Taron however pretty much knocked everyone else off the screen with his presence and charisma without even trying
Of course he puts more effort to it in the film. I am so excited because he has a natural singing voice which directly translates into a natural performance.
The bit was obviously scripted, with Hugh gallantly letting Evans handle more of the song in conjunction with upcoming publicity for the live-action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST film. Listen to Hugh on the Aussie OCR of the show, and you'll hear a much superior version to Evans'.
Luke has a good baritone sound, but his acting is not yet too evident on the sing-off. I do love the character of Gaston because of his obvious pomposity -- I think Hugh acts that out in his obviously unrehearsed participation ( he was in the Australian production 20 years ago). The way the song was "scripted" to be sung in this show, it was obviously slanted to promote the new live-action musical ( which I am looking forward to).
Taron admitted to Jonathan Ross that he had actually portrayed the role of LeFou in a 2006 staging of the show somewhere. Also, Taron had won an award given by the Stephen Sondheim Society as Best Performer when he was at RADA. He does have musical theatre pipes plus acting chops. He and Hugh share acting honors in the sports movie EDDIE THE EAGLE.
We all have preferences ( which people here generally respect), but when one rants and rants about one particular performer again and again and again -- that seems more like a personal and active dislike of the actor. It colors the objectivity of the perception.
Had Hugh Jackman been offered the role of The Beast and not that of Gaston, would he have become an international star of stage and movies? I think Beauty and the Beast showed the way for him to be cast by Trevor Nunn in SUNSET BOULEVARD...which eventually led for Trevor (together with the Board of the Royal National Theatre) to cast him in OKLAHOMA!... And that paved the way for his Hollywood career, strange as it may sound. Three people saw him in OKLAHOMA! : XMen producer Lauren Shuler Donner, producer Harvey Weinstein who cast him in KATE AND LEOPOLD, and his longtime agent Patrick Whitesell who is now Co-Chairman/Co CEO of one of the largest talent agencies in Hollywood called WME.
If he had no talent, the opportunities which followed would not have come thereafter.
Here for Taron Egerton only. That boy can sing!!! He's going to be in "Sing" later this year so something to look forward to. I hope he does West End or Broadway soon.
