I have found a play that is in the public domain and I was wondering if my theater group will need to may any royalties for performing the piece.

It is the original script from 1904.

I would assume not, who would you pay the royalties to? But at the end of the day I am just a person on the Internet: don't let me be the final say, but break a leg if you do produce it.

I appoligise for any spelling mistakes. I may be on my mobile. Clumsy fingers and small little touchscreen keys don't mixx. I try to spellcheck, but I may miss something.

It depends on lots of things.....like the.physical script itself.  If it is in any way an adaptation or (possibly) a translation it might still have strings attached.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
