RuPaul's Drag Race Season 8 Thread!

Any thoughts, guesses, wishes? There are no real spoilers this week, but there is some clue-ish stuff brewing. Posted below:

 

 

 

 

SPOILERISH STUFF:

 

 

The rumor swirling is that it is cello-playing hippie's week to sashay. In the preview, she calls out two other queens, saying, "it doesn't matter the order, but they are the next two to go." That's never good for the one saying it. She also hosts a viewing party and had said she might not host this week. Then, last night, she posted, "Oh, why not?!" and a link to the info for the viewing party. That was either ominous or intended to make people read into it. lol  Either way, it looks like Derrick is at least safe this week. The runway looks like a greyscale iconic Hollywood look.

Derrick wins this challenge.  I've heard the bottom two this week are Chi Chi and Thorgy, and that the Louisiana lady sends our Brooklyn girl home.  I'll be sad if it's true, but honestly I haven't been super impressed with Thorgy the last two weeks, mostly in terms of her attitude (granted, that's probably just editing).  Bummer if it's true.

Now THAT was a lip sync. Historic. Legendary. I'm sorry see Thorgy go, but there was no way she was staying after what ChiChi did on that stage.

Not to mention that she really blew that challenge. Chi Chi really shouldn't have even been in the bottom 2. Her video was better than Kim Chi's.

I agree, but Kim Chi's runway look saved her ass from being in the bottom, plus her ability to make fun of herself in Namoi's campaign video. And speaking of Naomi, she's starting to turn it out every week. I wouldn't be surprised to see her in the top 3 if she keeps this up.

Thorgy ran out of steam. I'm ready for Derrick to go. Hoping Chi Chi can hold herself together and make it to the final three.

I was team Thorgy from the get-go, but she deserved to go this week. Chi Chi leaving wouldn't have made sense. Bob has three wins now. I think this is his to lose.

Derrick rode Bob's coattails to victory, no question.  I was surprised at how utterly unfunny Thorgy's commercial was -- there was just no wit there at all.

Yeah, I was let down by Thorgy this week. Sad to see her go, but no doubt she was the one to have gone home this week. Chi Chi slayed that lip sync, just absolutely killed.

Derrick did... alright this week. If she weren't paired with Bob, she would have just been safe, but it's the best she's done thus far.

Bob, meanwhile, is just steamrolling this season, just like Bianca before her.

I was disappointed in Thorgy this week.  I missed that spunky, fun, "I love drag! This is awesome!" kid from the beginning of the show. There was a bit of that back after she was eliminated in Untucked. I think she was just terribly worn out and down. I don't know.

I began watching this week's episode knowing the outcome and didn't expect to end up agreeing that Thorgy deserved to go home. She was really letting the competition overwhelm her to the point that all she could focus on was what her competitors were doing, and I think that's what caused the shift JereyGirl's pointing out. If she had spent less time envying the attention Bob was getting and more time investing her efforts in herself, I think she may have fared a little better.

She still seems so lovely and is of course so talented; it's just a shame it had to play out that way because I think what she does is far more interesting than what most of the girls left are bringing to the table.

This is like Ruverse Drag Race. The last three eliminated queens could have been top three if they'd brought their A game. But this season seems to be the lazy queen season. Nobody seems to be trying that hard.  Even Bob, who I consider to be the front runner, doesn't seem to be giving it his all.

I think Bob is super talented and I wouldn't be upset to see him win, but I don't think he has the polish that other winners have had. Some of his costumes are great, but his face almost always looks half-assed. They absolutely hounded Jinkx for her look, and it was never as sloppy as Bob.

The thing about Bob is that she's so smart.  She knows how to work her storyline on this particular TV show.  I think she's saving the big fashion moment for the end since she knows her comedy will get her through most of the challenges.  I've seen her perform live, and I've seen her do glamour many times.  And the fact that they edited in the Michelle comment this week about her challenging Bob to do one glamorous look makes me think that either next week or the one after, we're going to see Bob TURN IT OUT in terms of fashion.  And that will solidify her win.

The whole "Bob's look is ratchet drag!" criticism doesn't really make sense. Because... it's not.

To be clear, I don't think Bob is incapable of doing straight-up glamour- her black gown in the second episode was stunning. I just think her makeup often looks like she did it in about five minutes- the Tron look, in particular, was poorly done. I still want her to win, but it's very much a Bianca storyline with her- she's so competent in a way most of her competitors aren't, flaws that otherwise would be called out with lesser queens get passed over. 

Also, having now watched the episode, as bummed as I am to see Thorgy go, it would have been criminal to send Chi Chi home after that lipsync. But of course, it would have been surprising to see Chi Chi not slay that song- it plays to her strengths in a way that it just didn't for Thorgy. I will be very surprised if Chi Chi isn't Top 3. I don't think she deserves it, given her inconsistent output, but it's clear Ru has taken a shine to her and she has a great storyline to go along with it. Other than Bob's ad, which was brilliantly funny, the rest of them were generally ok, with Naomi Smalls doing a much better job than I expected.

Thorgy is aweosme. She just doesn't have that emotional connection that linked up with the song. Her lip synch was just too one note and cheerleadery.

I also thought Thorgy caused more on ChiChi, then the song itself.   It seemed her attention was on getting in front of Chi.

They list the queens in order of elimination for every season...and I'm curious on whether or not Season 8 may be accurate...they have Naomi going next, followed by Kim with Bob, ChiChi, and BasicBritney in top 3. I hope it's not legit. Derrick needs to go. Yesterday.

Courtney...I mean Derrick, should have been gone weeks ago. It's maddening she's still in the race when other MUCH more talented and versatile Queens were sent packing for having an "off week".

I would like to see a Kim / Chi Chi / Bob top 3.

I mean, barring some sort of bizarre breakdown, the crown is Bob's.

Predictions for tonight ladies and gents?  I haven't heard a single thing about this episode, so we could be in for a big surprise.
